I was wondering if it was possible to come up with a recipe that creates spirit shards. Even with the daily drops its taking quite a bit to continually get things like Auger Stones.

There are already several ways to ‘farm’ spirit shards:

  • Farm Tomes of Knowledge from PvP & WvW reward tracks. Just doing the dailies yields a ton. (see more, below, if you aren’t a PvPer or WvWer)
  • Farm XP. Fractal farms are especially good for this. The dailies in the new zones are also good, but you have to unlock/cap your Forsaken Thicket mastery (for non-raiders, this would require buying a run; see below).
  • Farm Champ Bags: silverwastes is good, or the champ train where it appears in Frostgorge (some weeks) or Orr (most days). Most people don’t notice the shards from bags, because they don’t drop into inventory and we open bags so fast, we don’t ‘see’ the pop up icon.

For those that don’t WvW, PvP, or Raid: obviously, not participating in these limits your options considerably. That’s unfortunate, since the PvP & WvW dailies can often be done ‘easily’. If you’re interested in learning how, please PM me here or in-game — I don’t want to digress for the main topic.

Similarly, for Raids: you can buy a run to unlock the mastery, which isn’t hard to max afterward. I don’t recommend it, because it’s expensive (whereas PvP|WvW dailies are lucrative), but if you want to, I’m willing to help you find a reliable runner.

John Smith: “you should kill monsters, because killing monsters is awesome.”

The HoT containers(airship cargo, exalted chest, crystallized cache) also give spirit shards. Not sure if the champ bag like items they give are also actual champ bags which would also give a chance at shards. If so then they are probably the best.

You can also buy shards with Fractal Relics https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dessa's_Experiment_Journal

Even without full mastery just killing stuff with any lv80 character will also give spirit shards as drops. Any place where you could be killing a lot of mobs would be good. I would probably go do this in Ember Bay so I can farm karma at the same time.
