Spirit Shards, really WTF
Eh I have 187 spirit shards and need another 10,400 for the rest of the ascended armors/weapons, mystic forge recipes, and preparations for the HoT legendaries . ..
Would at least like it if leveling up gave a spirit shard until the new mastery system comes out.
And what else do you miss? Yk…
I agree with the OP.
Most of you managed to horde up larger numbers due to playing the game longer and under a more generous system while newer players are struggling.
Its not about “I want it now” its about not making things more difficult for the new player.
I second that – or for people like me who like to run around and farm nodes. Would be nice if nodes had a 0,0X% chance of dropping a spirit shard. I kind of feel forced to run champ trains.
As a node farmer is was simply fine with the old system where each level up
gave me a skillpoint. And as long as we don’t get new specialisation points
on level ups, all i wish is we would get at least a spirit shard as long as HoT
is not released.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I have around 650 Spirit Shards, I’ve had my Gift of Mastery ready for over a year, and I’ve never specifically grinded for Spirit Shards. You’ll get there, OP. I know it seems like it’ll take forever, but you’ll get there.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

Please try to get my point, ok?
It’s great if obtaining this or that has becomen easier for casual players but nothing has becomen easier for me the way I play this game. That was my point that was why I suggested that nodes have a tiny chance to drop spiritshards as well. As before this change those who did champ trains got their scrolls of knowledge and their exp and everybody else could do what ever they wanted and got xp. It’s ok if they want to nerf the amount of spirit shards people have but I think this is done very one sided.
It’s over all easier. Your complaint is that it’s harder for you personally. Anet can’t make a game for you personally. Sure maybe they will raise the spirit shard count, but the point is, the whole process of getting a legendary is overall easier anyway. I get that it’s harder for you. When stuff doesn’t work for me, I usually try to figure out if this is something most players have an issue with, or if it’s something more geared to my particular play style. If it’s just me or people like me and I don’t suspect their’s some majority out there feeling it, I tend not to make a big deal about it.
I get that you personally feel it’s an issue for you. But if it’s not an issue for most people, and it doesn’t seem to be, it’s going to be very low on the list of priorities.
We should still be able to get a spirit shard when we fill the exp bar. I understand that will become a mastery bar and that the mastery bars will not all fill at the same rate, but until it becomes a mastery bar we should still get a spirit shard for filling it. I am acquiring spirit shards much more slowly than I used to acquire skill points.

Lower skill points/ spirit shard drop rates is a far more concerning issue than cheaper legendaries, and if you paid much attention to the economy and the necessity of supply you’d know why.
This person has a perfectly valid argument, leveling was a very steady but consistent supply of skill points and stripping that away for an extremely low chance of a spirit skitten drop was a really bad idea.
I had over 2300 in my wallet, now I have lost some… i’m at 1823 now, biggest problem seems to be they aren’t given on each full xp bar nowadays.. I used up 500 in a month, and i didn’t make a legendary…, ( changed 10+ ascecndeds 100, crafted 10 ascendeds) that’s 300+ shards…
Thank you for acknowledging the problem: we are acquiring spirit shards at a lower rate because we aren’t getting them on level up (instead of just saying, “gee I have 1800 so I don’t know what you all are complaining about”).
Many people in this thread think because they have over 1000, means there was no nerf. Start logging how many you’re acquiring per day and you’ll notice it’s less than before.
Honestly, wait for pre-cursor crafting.
There is no reason to complain when things are about to shake up..
GW2 is currently in a state of “wait and see”
Just hoard up whatever you feel like might be useful and continue playing, but I would be hessitant to buy/sell/salvage anything that might have use with crafting since the whole system for legendary creation is about to change.
I have over 5k Spirit shards and no idea how to spend them, so I am glad the rate isnt higher
I have over 5k Spirit shards and no idea how to spend them, so I am glad the rate isnt higher
How does that even make sense? “well I have a bunch stockpiled, but I don’t use them, so I’m glad people are struggling to purchase the things they do use them for”
Really the rate at which these come isn’t terrible if you optimize for it. Problem is optimizing for it would make me want to quit the game. Go view a vista in Ascalon. Go do mine some in Maguuma. Blah blah, boring. Then go open chests in silverwastes… god this game is so fun!!!!
That’s the problem with this situation. Acquiring them at a decent rate is not fun, combined with the fact that they’re coming in at a fraction of the rate they used to when theyw ere skill points yet an Augur stone is the same price… what’s up with that?
“well we want to force you to go do boring things so you can gain access to equipment you need to do something you consider fun (fractals)” seems like such an excellent plan…

10,400? That seems like 4-5 times the amount you might need, unless you just bought your account (in which case, I wouldn’t think there’s that much of a rush).
I have 22 ascended armor sets, I’m still planning on making another 23 for 45 total.
Full Ascended weapons for all 45 characters.
50 shards per Eldritch scroll for the remaining mystic forge skins that I need.
200 for each bloodstone shard in preparations HoT legendaries.
Mystic clovers in preparation for HoT legendaries.
10 shards per ascended weapon skin conversion to get all the skins.
My main source of skill points previously was doing map completions while killing everything. You got a surprisingly large amount from doing that (faster than speed clearing dungeons) and I got to work on my gifts of exploration at the same time.
Nowadays, SW chest farming and running around in a big circle repetitively is the best source of spirit shards.

Actually, it seems perfectly reasonable to complain about this now as long as it is done in a way that is respectful to the developers — complaints are often very helpful. There is a shake-up coming, but it hasn’t happened so far. Yet, this change has been made NOW. It isn’t a good change for me, nor for the OP nor likely for many other players. It’s rather difficult to just “Hoard up whatever you feel like might be useful” when the rate of acquisition has dropped for these.
I’m fine with changes. I’m looking forward to the masteries. But, until we get a mastery bar we should still be getting spirit shards for leveling.

Actually it makes sense to award shards for levelling up since we got a skill point for every level gained. I can’t really think of a good reason why they didn’t implement this, except to encourage people to buy HoT, i.e. people are less likely to want to stay at lvl 80 because there is no gain from levelling past it without HoT.
is this thread serious….?
From what I’ve noticed I get a spirit shard drop whenever I kill something after my exp bar has filled up so for me nothing has changed except I gotta kill something to get the point.

Just your imagination =) Doesn’t work that way.

Nice try. I don’t farm the Silverwastes at all.
