So leveling up and doing dungeons (besides gold and bags) became pretty next to useless. Grinded 750 bags from SE, opened them and got 64 Spirit Shards, woopdiedoo.
If I would go for a Legendary, this would require me ~450 Spirit Shards / 64 = 7.05 × 750 = 5.287 Champion Bags.
And Yes, I may have been unlucky, but the drop rate of them is kinda complete sh*t!

I think they should:
1. Raise the drop rate out of Champion Bags.
2. Raise the drop rate from mobs.
3. Reward 1-3 Spirit Shards for completing Dungeons/Fractals
4. Reward 1 Spirit Shard (+1 Mastery Point when HoT is out) for Leveling up

Dude if you can’t even bother to get some spirit shard I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe you are too lazy to have a legendary? It’s already so freaking easy to get, that it’s almost meaningless.

Well, it’s not like you rack up tons of kills in dungeons, especially since most people skip trash. Try killing mobs in greater numbers or gasp kill things outside of dungeons.

You must be really unlucky, I use 100 about this time last week, right now I have over 450+ , I’ve mostly been playing PvP. So I don’t know if that makes any sort of difference.

If ANet expected people to earn enough to make a legendary in a month or Ascended gear in a week, then sure, the acquisition rate for spirit shards feels anemic. If you recall that the devs expect that we will build slowly towards luxury gear, then spirit shards are dropping perhaps a bit too easily.

I have the Ascendeds already, just a point of changing the stats, spending 10 each time kinda hurts when you get 3 a day, and you get next to nothing because WvW is not rewarding

Yep.. now I am hoarding mine.. I was down to 0 just after the patch when I finished a legendary, and I’m currently at ~150 (after converting 2 ascended armor sets and a few weapons). So it’s not ridiculously hard to acquire them, but not getting them on level up slowed it down a lot for me, as I mainly WvW and do dungeons, where you level often.

Now I have a daily regime of:
-Do [at least] the PvP daily (reward track gives tomes = shards)
-Do any daily that rewards the Writ of Exp (20 = 1 tome = 1 spirit shard)
-Do any daily that rewards a tome
-KILL EVERYTHING when I’m out doing world bosses or whatever. It’s not a super high drop rate, but they do drop

And don’t forget you can use fractal relics to purchase Dessa’s journal. Though I’m loathe to do that with the fractal reward changes coming (cat golem minis!)

Anyway, my beef is with the fact that leveling past 80 is currently giving us NOTHING. They could have waited til HoT to take that away (IIRC we will get one hero point for leveling past 80, and they could have just swapped the rewards at that time).

I prefer the “farmers” have this own chest farming map. Take it away and they’ll just flock somewhere else that annoys new players or people who are actually trying to play the game/finish events.

Don’t worry, you’re jsut starting, and this is an MMORPG. Get max level then let it flow. You will have far more spirit shards then you can spend, guaranteed. Am sitting at around 1k give or take if I actually decide to use them or not.

I’m sitting on over 2k of them just because of how many extra points I had on my main characters, plus the two stacks of skill point scrolls. And that’s after buying one or two eldritch scrolls and augurs stones.

As was said above, it’s meant to take a little time to get enough shards (if you’re starting from 0 of them, especially).

Is that actually data or made up number. Since I remembered roughly getting 46 from 250 bags a while ago.

If I farm more bags, I’ll put more data.

And I think the average for legendary is 350 not 450. So unless you are very unlucky, and maybe you are, you shouldn’t need 450.

edit: I only have 68 bags. Opened those and got 11. I can’t find any recent data on youtube except people saying the number didn’t change much. My experience is the number havn’t change. Your number seems off. Try confirming with other farmers.

I don’t get spirit shards, I got 1800 just sitting there and not sure what I’m meant to do with them…

  • Promote various mats, for profit or personal use (e.g. in legendaries).
  • Forging mystic clovers.
  • Crafting Ascended weapons.
  • Forge various special weapons, e.g. Courage
  • Saving them for some future use that some of the community are expecting to see in HoT.
  • Check the wiki’s article on Spirit Shards details.

Its at least frustrating that at the moment we simply get nothing at all for level ups.

Since i dont do fractals i get maybe now 3 shards every second day .. and oh yes so
far i had already TWO shard dropped from mobs since the patch.
Before it was maybe 10 each day from level ups ..

Oh and Legendary crafting in expansion .. you know that you will have to
salvage ascended stuff there ? So you have maybe to craft even ascended
weapons and armor to salvage them.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

I had over 2300 in my wallet, now I have lost some… i’m at 1823 now, biggest problem seems to be they aren’t given on each full xp bar nowadays.. I used up 500 in a month, and i didn’t make a legendary…, ( changed 10+ ascecndeds 100, crafted 10 ascendeds) that’s 300+ shards…

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Had a tad over 20k skill points this time last year, money making and Legendaries happened and now I have a few hundred left. Best advice I can give you from someone in a similar position is to smash out SW Chest Farms for a couple hours a night, I leech from an organized guild and get around 300 bags in that time which works out at maybe 50-70 spirit shards a night on top of all the Obsidian Shards/ whatever you may need.

The old legendaries should remain the same, crafting is for new skins.
As for the new skins, I hope they will take 2-3x more time/effort/resources to make. I dont want everyone to have 3 of them in first 6 months. Nobody does.

I have crafted 4 legendary weapons and always had 1k+ spirit shard. They’re so easy to obtain that I sometimes forget it’s a part of the crafting process. Unless you’re converting gems to gold for a legendary, you should obtain more than enough along the way.

SW drops champ bags like crazy, each has a chance to drop spirit shards along with other crafting components for legendaries and ascended items. So yeah, go grind SW.

10,400? That seems like 4-5 times the amount you might need, unless you just bought your account (in which case, I wouldn’t think there’s that much of a rush).

Lots of ignorance in this thread. You know … if you do something OTHER than camp champ bags, Spirit shards isn’t a problem. In fact, maybe that’s the whole POINT of not being showered with spirit shards opening Champ bags … think of that?

And? Those things aren’t designed for you to get them fast so I’m thinking … 3 a day is more than reasonable for a daily + whatever you get from bags/playing. Besides, you aren’t gear locked, so there is no argument to be made around how long it takes to get shards to make gear.

I’m doing wvw “24/7”, so map completion never really was a problem for me, except the first time, but that was when I started wvw.
I have been to the silver wastes maybe 3 times, I probably will never again get there.
World Boss trains bore me to death (although I’m doing them from time to time if I need ectos)
Champ trains bore me to death.
For me it’s harder to get spirit shards and just as difficult to get map completion or T6 mats.
Oh and I get my dungeon tokens by doing dungeons.

I’m talking about spirit shards. The OP may have been focused on spirit shards for a legendary (which I could have purchased out-right “as a starting player” on the TP if I had wanted one that bad). Spirit shards are more than just for legendary weapons.

I guess it is more difficult for people who are relatively new to the game. After the skill point to shard conversion I have over 3K shards. But I have noticed that shards seem quite hard to come by.

You can gain crazy spirit shards from sw. All those goodie bags yielded me 20+ for 3 runs of sw. Starting from 30-50% then daily for 7 days is a further 21.

It’s not that difficult. Yes more difficult than say a fresh character and just running skills challenges but I ashume that’s not how anet want you to grind them….

It’s pretty illogical that obsidian shards are becoming less rare than spirit shards/sps, I get something like 90 shards for 2 hours of SW and half of that in spirit shards.

But there was no option to to get dungeon tokens when we started than doing dungeons, which not everyone does or even can do. Now you can get them by PvPing or even standing around in a PvP daily room if you’d rather do that. Slow but doable.

Map completion for most people, yes I said most, is easier without having to worry about WvW map completion. That is to say, you used to HAVE TO go into WvW and that means you had to do 4 extra maps for map completion. Sometimes one of the points if interest was in a tower that wasn’t your color and you’d have to wait a month or even more before you changed color and could get that point. We don’t have to do that anymore. Also badges of honor now come from achievement rewards. When I did my first legendary I had to WvW to get those achievements. Not to mention getting rank is easier for some people following a commander in EoTm than in WvW proper.

We didn’t get laurels quite as fast so we didn’t get T6 mats quite as fast in the beginning. In fact, back in the beginning there were no champ bags, no daily rewards, and even laurels didn’t exist. If you wanted T6 mats you had to farm and buy them. And dungeons back then didn’t give you 1 gold for running them or champ bags.

What I hear is that I’m playing one single aspect of the game, and so I’m limited. I can pretty much guarantee you far more people want to avoid WvW than want to avoid PvE.

Edit: Oh and Obby shards were ONLY available from the Great Temple of Balthazar, and only for Karma back then. But it was before the mega server and we had to wait to cap that temple and if we missed it, sometimes it would be days, if not weeks before we could get an open one. You might not remember people posting threads begging to be notified of an open Temple of Balthazar or it not being open on any server, but I remember those threads.

It’s great if obtaining this or that has becomen easier for casual players but nothing has becomen easier for me the way I play this game. That was my point that was why I suggested that nodes have a tiny chance to drop spiritshards as well. As before this change those who did champ trains got their scrolls of knowledge and their exp and everybody else could do what ever they wanted and got xp. It’s ok if they want to nerf the amount of spirit shards people have but I think this is done very one sided.
