Am I? Because it can only be a gold mine if there were enough exotic drops (not dungeon token weapons) to actually use them on. That’s also assuming we’re talking about exotic armor pieces with high value runes.

I think the point being made was there are tons of Exotics on the AH that are (significantly) more valuable broken down with a BLSK than the cost of buying them with a buy order.

BLSKs are probably 1 of the most undervalued gem store items by the players.

I always thought they were awesome, but I’m also pretty sure I don’t understand how to maximize their utility. So, out of caution I have probably 4.2 of these banked. I’m starting to get a little bit of an overflow of Exotics in my bank too from sPvP, so it’s likely one problem can solve the other.

Using 1 BLSK charge should net you at least 1g profit, 2g, if you know the market a bit, 5g, if you know how to profit from all the globs of dark matter you gonna get and 10g during short term peak times. So its a value between 25-250g, I have seen exotics being linked in map chat for a lot less. At times, i bought gems with gold and then BLSKs and still made 2-3g per salvage.

Would you mind PMing me with maybe a little more step-by-step explanation of this? Maybe you have a cut-and-paste essay stored somewhere?

Just like always, anything specific or actual I will tell you on these forums, will result in less profits that i claim to be made with it.

But the Rune of Melandru already mentioned is a good example of how to go about it.

First of all, you need to know what a BLSK does, so you need to read up on it, best place to start is the official wiki.

It probably is no revelation to anybody that the best gear to use them on is exotic.
Many players keep their BLSKs just for that purpose of salvaging worthy exotic gear but they obtain BLSK charges faster than exotics, thats why they keep piling up in most banks of long term players.
After reading the wiki, you know what kind of mats you can salvage from certain exotic gear, including all or some of ectos, commons mats, upgrade components, inscriptions, insignias or globs of dark matter.
Common mats get often neglected, as they usually add up to the least amount of the overall value. Dark matter is also undervalued because most people dont utilize its gold value. Now the main value comes from ectos, insig/inscr and upgrade components.

Ectos are pretty stable and so are usually insignias, so there is a stable value that can be added to BLSK charges.

However, upgrade components, like runes and sigils, can fluctuate in value quite a bit, with balance changes. If balance patches are incoming, we usually know about them before they get implemented and some upgrade components see a good rise in value due to speculation before patch or due to demand afterwards. With the changes in the recent patch to stability, rune of melandru, the sigils of impact and paralysation are good examples. Most of the time, the hype is half the profit and you are better off seling before the patch actually hits. But most of the time, you have several options to obtain these upgrade components. You can either straight out buy them from the tp, put in buy orders, salvage them from other gea, forge or craft them.

Both sigils i mentioned, are craftable for 1 ori ingot, 1 ecto and 1 onyx lodestone. Given the supply of those mats, its unreasonable to believe that their value will rise much beyond crafting value as their prices are pretty stable.

But the rune of melandru is not craftable. You can only salvage it from 4 pieces of random drop armor or forge it via an rng drop with rare runes. That means that production wont be easily raised in case of sudden demand, like it would be the case with the craftable sigils. Therefore getting your hand on a suprior melandru rune will probably net you the most profit. Everybody who wants some melandru runes now tries to get some. The mayority will just put in buy orders for the rune or buy it directly. The smarter ones will actually type in “melandru” in the tp search bar, set the filter to exotic and armor and buy/bid for the armor piece that contains a melandru rune that is the cheapest. Some of those will actually check, which stat the armor piece has and consider the value of the potential insignia salvage. They will be pleased to pay less for the shamans armor of melandru compared to the rampagers armor of melandru.

Continued:
If you are really smart, you will try to purchase exotic gear to salvage, that includes a melandru rune but doesnt have melandru in its name, just like reynas armor.

If you already would have taken my first advice and used the wiki to read up on, you would have discovered this site, which conveniently shows you, which named armor sets have which rune and prefix:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Named_armor

The same can be applied to named exotic weapons.

Not many people will compete with you for reynas armor on the tp compared to the competition for runes of melandru.

Thats what i mean, if I speak of knowing the market, which will decide, if you make 1g or 10g profit per salvage.

I am quite aware that most people reading this will never ever get a 10g profit with any kind of black lion salvage but even a 1g profit target per charge will be a great improvement of the status quo for most players. 25g for an occupied bank inventory slot can look quite tasty for a casual veteran.

Personally, i have about 9 1/2 stacks of BLSKs in my bank, which is above average i would assume. Usually, I would keep around 5 stacks in spare for a good opportunity but recently, i decided to safe the ones i got for special purposes.
While one thing is the reoccurence of an event that netted me about 8g per salvage (with that average, i burned through 12 stacks within 3 hours and then bought 48 more stacks from the gem store to get between 1-3g per salvage), another reason is my speculation on jeweler 500. Honestly, its way overdue and some investments I made in those regards are nearly 2 years old but if they would implement it like ascended weapon and armor crafting, i will have my list of exotic trinkets that have uncraftable exquisite jewels to salvage from at the ready to cash in big time.

Thank you . I’m not necessarily looking to maximize my return, just improve it. You’ve given me considerable food for thought. The notion of selling Ascended Insignia made my jaw drop just a little (I’m a chronic DIYer, so the idea that anyone would buy those slid right past me…).

I had a few BLSK sitting in my bank so I thought I’d “test out” some of these suggestions.

Well, I now have 25 weapons skins that I didn’t have before, about 40 or so Ecto’s maybe 10 globs of Dark Matter, various pieces of T5 and T6 mats and none of this cost me a thing.

Thanks for the tip!

This is one thing i didnt even consider to add to the potential value of a salvage, as I nearly salvaged every named exotic with a worthy sigil or inscription a long time ago already.

Yeah, you unlock quite a bit of weapon skins along the way.

Is there any chance of this happening? I think after 2.5 years, and mass amount of players opening up BLC, many have most likely obtained a large amount of black lion salvage kits. I’m sure for most they are just taking up excess space in bank tabs that can be used for other things. Thoughts??

Dredging this one back up, cause I think it is worth some thought to stacking or combining the BLSK’s: salavage a BKLS with a BKLS and they combine or something like that… not exactly like PPAP, but close to that.
