Stacks and losing them on down
It’s a penalty for dying.
If there was no way to lose stacks, then why have them? You’d rather implement permanent bonuses…

Ok, it’s a penalty for getting 0hp, which you shouldn’t. :p Think of it as a motivation not to reach that point…
Yeah it’s pretty annoying, that’s why I never stack up in WvW unless I solo roam. Since if I try contribute to a group I melt in AoE’s. It’s really helpful in PvE though, since PvE is just trash mobs and such.
Though if you ask me, downed is a stupid mechanic to have in PvP.

I agree that a downed state should be removed from WvW and sPvP, there you should be alive or dead, no in between state.

People can regard downed as a mini failure or part death. You are either alive or dead; the downed system is another part of the alive section, and does not mean you will be defeated.
There are builds/tactics that make good use of the down part. I am less motivated to utilise downed due to the stacking system. I am highly motivated in the skill involved in staying alive.
I’m thinking loosing stacks would not be regular enough if they were lost on defeated and not downed, in ANets idea. Or perhaps the function isn’t working as intended, seeing as they(the WXP ones) state lost on death, and yet they are lost on downed.
I think that stacks dropping on downed is perfectly appropriate. Downed has been presented as a sort of second chance, a means to get back into the fight after being overcome. If that is the case, and I have seen much to support it and nothing to contradict it, then being downed seems to be meant to be undesirable. Having buff stacks lost on downed supports that intended undesirability.
I don’t mind losing them when downed…
what p***es me off is losing them just b/c I entered personal story instance, changed zones, or guested another server really quick….
I think it’s stupid to lose them when downed, they should make you lose them when dead if they truly want to make downed meaningful as a means to help struggle. They also have an immensely imbalanced downed state set of skills so it’s definitely a huge problem for some classes including those focused on conditions.
