While some like myself missed the opportunity to get Star of Gratitude for various different reasons during Wintersday event. IMHO something like this shouldn’t be tied to a limited onetime a year event/s, and that it screws over all the people who missed out and all the new players coming in with all the 75% off sales as of late.
So I’m asking for an alternative acquisition method rather sooner or later and I know people are busy right now with all the H.O.T stuff.
Edit: Look all I’m asking is for alternative acquisition method for everyone even for all the new players coming into the game. That something like this should not be tied to one time a year event. Since the community has been asking for another way to get rid of Empyreal Fragments, Dragonite Ore, and Bloosd Stone dust for this one to be so limited is not cool.

If you have the “Orphan Laine” letter in your mailbox, you can still do this series of quests to get the star. The food NPC is still popping up all over the map and the jumping puzzles you need are still dropping the boxes.
This is one of the major issues with MMO’s that engender this ‘entitled’ mentality. Because things are happening over time, and sometimes those things are limited in duration, people will inevitably miss out. But just because other people had an opportunity that you missed, you think you’ve been “screwed over” by ANet, as if they’re obligated to provide the exact same experience to every player regardless of when they’re actively playing. This is just what happens when you miss out on something.
Of course, it’s fine to ask for it again, nothing wrong with that, just please don’t act like you’ve been cheated out of something you rightfully deserve.

Interesting, so that is basically anyone that logged on at least once while Wintersday was around.

Exactly. But if they just deleted the letter, they’re probably SOL for now.
I vote they get added to the laurel merchant like the other nodes.

The Star of Gratitude isn’t a node.
Right. I assumed the tree for the home instance was the goal. Thus, a node via laurels.
They could add the orphan letter to the laurel vendor, though.
OP try submitting a support ticket requesting the letter. They might help out!
I just go back into the game around that time. I looked at the letter but it didn’t seem special. So I deleted it on all my characters. Nothing in the letter would lead me to believe I could get something useful like this.
As a person who doesn’t have the star either I think the way you act is indeed troublesome. You do indeed act like you are entitled to have this item. Ontop of that, if we look at so called “facts” they never re-released the shattered holographic dragon wings nor the Sunless wings. So Anet has absolutely no reason to re-release the star, based on past experiences.

Agree to disagree to all that may share your point of view as I never came across that way at all.
Have a good day!

Anyway….yes, they need to make the star accessible to everyone. So adding a new way to get it would be good.

Well you are wrong and on the wrong side of history here: You are going just going by 2 skins Anet never released them again in some way. (I know Antitoxin Injector skin they never released again so that that 3)
Anet has brought almost all skins but those you mentioned, who knows could it be an oversight on their part or just a decisions that they made not to. We just don’t know!
Now some facts: Originally some of these Black Lion Weapons Specialist skins come and went before they added them back to the vendor full time minus some historical skins. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Weapons_Specialist
34 skins/items they brought back here

Hi,
in wiki it says it is still possible to make it if one has the letter.
I still have it but can’t find Grawnk in the home instance. I changed the letter to another toon to check diferent home instance and can’t find it aswell.
Where should I look?
thanks

That is untrue. You cannot finish the quest unless you started it during wintersday – no amount of clicking on the letter will make the grawl npc appear if the event isn’t already running.

i’d say that the both versions of Mad Memoires would be a better comparison than LS skins.

I think the difference is that Mad Memoires is a cool skin, but the star of gratitude provides a valuable service.

Oh, i also think that it is likely to return next Wintersday – but it is also possible, that they will introduce some different empyreal eater next time.
I rather Mawdrey gets an alternative.
Its too grindy.

Yes exactly star of gratitude provides a valuable service.
To few others: You can only finish the quest chain if you made progress in the chain, just having the letter on a toon will not let you finish the quest chain.
I got this over chirstmas in like 15 minutes played over 3 days (which is silly compared to mawdrey taking 100+ gold), but I agree with the OP. Having limited edition skins and toys and minis and whatever is fine for temporary content, but something like this being available only to people who logged in 1 month out of the year is going too far.
Putting it in the laurel vendor like the season 1 rewards seems like an easy fix. That or put in a new item with the same effect with the expansion (when we’ll finally get a dragonite eater as well I hope)
All the eaters should be always accessible. Anet need to fix their mistake properly.
I rather Mawdrey gets an alternative.
Its too grindy.
And it’s fantastically useful. Worth every bit of effort to get. And that’s not including the ascended backpack and badkitten skin that comes with it.
I would likely do almost that level of work for a dragonite ore eater by itself.
In contrast, the sheer little amount of effort it took to get the star of gratitude shocked me. I was prepared for another super effort (I strongly resist calling getting mawdrey II a “grind”) and instead I basically just logged in, chatted with a couple NPCs and re-did a couple of easy jumping puzzles. Boom, done. What? That’s it?
Star of gratitude was way too easy to get, while in contrast mawdrey II was maybe a bit too much work. For the dragonite ore eater, if we get one eventually, I would opt for an aquisition method somewhere between the two others, though preferably closer to mawdrey.
To the OP specifically, I sympathize. You’re correct, this is a QoL item, not a skin or other aesthetic. Do I believe an option should be made available for new players to acquire a fragment eater at any time, provided they put in the effort? Yes. However, I do not have an inherent problem with temporary rewards tied to time-gated content. Like I said above, I think making a QoL item time-gated was a strange decision, but I personally chalk that up to Abet wanting to maximize login numbers during the festival season.
I rather Mawdrey gets an alternative.
Its too grindy.
I’d be happy with it if I foxfire clusters had a spot in the materials tab, geodes in the wallet, and I could get the mists thingamabob without doing Fractals.

The pristine fractal relics can be earned in a total of two days, two fractal runs, and ~two hours of your time if you wait for days when there are “daily fractal runner” and/or “daily level 1-10 fractal.” A level 1 fractal even with a newbie group is typically no more difficult than an explore mode dungeon run. Heck, you don’t even need agony resistence at that level.
I was opposed to trying fractals because I thought they sounded too difficult. I had all the other materials for mawdrey and put off the fractal runs for months (not even kidding, just finished mawdrey about two weeks ago) because I didn’t want to do them. But I finally sucked it up and did them, and now they’re my favorite dungeon content in the game. I’m up to the scale 20-29 fractals.

As for “foxfire clusters having a spot in the materials tab, geodes in the wallet” then you need to make a thread for your suggestions, this thread isn’t the place for it.
Fractals is available to you 24/7 365 days a year for you to play to get your mist drops. Star of Gratitude acquisition is not! So your argument here is invalid, Star of Gratitude acquisition should be available to us 24/7 365 days a year.

Yes, the star gives random junk in exchange for some empyreal fragments. Hardly a big deal if you miss this item.

May not be a big deal for yourself but for others it helps get rid of empyreal fragments by having another use of them instead of trashing them getting nothing in return.
Random junk in return? not everything you can get is junk there are some useful things you can get.

Oh yes, 1% chance to get something remotely useful. Nothing special you couldnt get in other ways.
I accidentally deleted the letter. Would it be possible to get CS to restore it?

only way to finish it if you made progress in the event chain, doesn’t matter if you have the letter or not.

That’s still beside the point and your 1% number is wrong. anything besides the junk vendor items that you may get is useful.

The point is this is an item attached to a trilogy of items that enhance the player experience by providing an objective to work towards a life time use reward. ANYONE who is dismissing the issue of this item’s availability is not contributing anything to the community. I can see not getting the tree. Fine! but there is no excuse for this item to be exclusive. I own the Eater myself and I feel terrible for anyone who cant obtain it. To everyone else who simply came here to dismiss this simple and reasonable request you must understand your attitude in this mater is irrational. The simple fact that this item completes a trilogy of items Anet created to HElP players overwhelmed with ascended crafting mats is enough reason to make sure everyone can acquire it.
There’s a lot of hyperbole floating around this thread, so let’s try to separate out the issues:
Exclusiveness
Importance
So this is entirely a matter of perception. None of us who have too many ascended mats are going to be affected much by being able to gain an extra 24s/day. None of us with too many mats are going to clear our inventory quickly. And plenty of people have the opposite issue of too few mats.
That doesn’t mean ANet shouldn’t address the imbalance in acquisition methods. It does mean to me that it’s not urgent and it’s not as important as many other balance issues.

The point is that some players (us) volunteered their time during last wintersday to help get some orphans their toys back and some people didnt care enough about it to pitch in (OP).
Now, as he is aware of the reward that came with it, he wants Anet to reintroduce a problem that has already been solved.
He is literally asking them to take away toys from orphans again just so he can gain a personal reward to help him cope with the abundance of goods he gets.
Please Anet, dont listen to these selfish people.

Anet created the problem with ascended mats to be only used for ascended armor and weapons and nothing else. Many many players asked for another way to get rid of excess mats instead of just deleting them and Anet gave us a way to do so to an extent!
The point is Exclusiveness as Illconceived Was Na.9781 pointed out
•Mawdrey II is only obtainable after completing The Dragon’s Reach: Part 2# it can be obtained by everyone since players can unlock the LS chapters with gems if they missed it for free.
•Princess can be obtained by anyone at any time.
•Star of Gratitude can be obtained by anyone who logs in during Winters day and advance the quest chain far enough to be able to finish the quest chain at anytime. Just having the letter isn’t enough Plus Star of Gratitude is tied to once a year event!
note in bold is corrected info
So it has nothing to do about being selfish at all
If you read my OP I clearly said “While some like myself missed the opportunity to get Star of Gratitude for various different reasons during Wintersday event” The reason I wasn’t able to play the game during that time is no ones business but mine. Anet only solved a problem for those where able to play during Wintersday event to get Star of Gratitude. For the rest of us is just the problem isn’t solved at all and no one knows if Anet will bring it back in this years Wintersday event. Its why many of us have asked Anet in several different threads that popped up.
I got the Star of Gratitude off-season. It took about 7 ish jumping puzzles. Consider though, the drops from it have been unimpressive at best.
This is a nice personal accomplishment but don’t expect to get any serious loot from it. If you’re looking to clear fragments it’s kinda worth it.
The same of Mawdrey really. It’s a nice prestige item, but don’t expect to get drops that equal the investment. The best I generally expect is some crafting consumables.
You could just wait 4 months.
You could just wait 4 months.
Unfortunately that’s what it looks for all those missed out on this will have to do and hope Anet offers the quest chain again this year as no one knows for sure. (Note I did make this thread 5 months ago)

The Princess gave me 2 exotic weapons so far, blues and greens sold for silver or used to increase magic find, junk sold, crafting mats and getting rid off of fragments is all a win-win in my book.
So can you still obtain the Star of Gratitude? I still have the letter in my bags (never deleted it). But it’s August now so I’m unaware if they have changed it since OP. I can’t seem to find Laine nor Grawnk…

Only if you started the quest chain, just having the letter does nothing.
Just put it on the shop for 300 gems off-season, problem solved and everybody wins.
This isn’t a difficult decision. There is no prestige in having this item, and thus nothing lost if an alternate method of obtaining it exists. Nobody knows that you have it, and if they do, it’s only because you told them.
