So I quit playing GW2 when I went to an Air Force leadership school for about 6 weeks. Before coming back I read up on the forums and was a little apprehensive after seeing all the posts about how Anet went back on what they said.
I’m only level 35 but to me everything feels the way it did when I left it. There are still people around and plenty of folks participating in the group events.
I know most of the concern is at level 80 with all of the ascended gear.
Are these complaints something I should be worried about as I make my way to the end game? I was a prior WoW player, so the whole gear grind is what I am accustomed to in MMO’s anyway. Before the patch I saw a lot of complaints about the lack of end game, why is everybody up in arms when they added more to the end game?
Hey Tsukagi,
Take these forums with a grain of salt. The only reason I brows the forums is to kill time at work, so don’t despair. I’ve hit 80 and there’s still tons to do. I play every day and I love it. Look me up if you ever need a hand.
Cheers!
Awesome, glad to hear that!
I will do, appreciate it!
Zimlobo is correct. You really need to just experience it and decide for yourself. I have been 80 for a while now, play every day and still find so much to do.
And welcome back! Just in time for Wintersday event coming in a week.
Very little has changed in GW2 since launch in terms of the game.
I took a little break also and indeed everything seems the same beside the starting areas being less crowded. I still see players everywhere helping each others in DE and against champions, just in less numbers, but I guess it’s related to players being more spread in levels now. Overall still fun especially when you play with a friend.
Great, thanks all!
First the community got a little bit of PR talk about the importance of vertical progression. Then players soon realized that the game ignored the progression part but kept the vertical part. Carrot on a stick works fine, if you get to eat the carrot from time to time, but how about I told you that at the luckiest, you might get your ascended ring after playing the new dungeon for 10h? At best, you get your first weapon after 20h of playing fractals. You then have a weapon with 8% more power while having proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, that you are the one person in the game who requires additional power the least.
I am not opposed to grinding, I like my Diablo3 gear grind. But there I start from a place of knowing it is impossible to get perfect gear, that gear is situational and its usefulness can even depend on an items ability to suport your build. For a long time, you really do get marginally better every 20 minutes. That is a nice and utterly pointless vertical grind in D3.
Ascended weapons in GW2 are just nasty by comparison and to top it off, due to a special condition called agony, not having an ascended ring beyond Fractal 15 is basically a death sentence. Agony does not add anything to an encounter in terms of gameplay depth, it is just adding punishment to increasingly chaotic fights. It is a denouncement of skill based gameplay, in favor of a gear-check mechanisms. After year of advertising the Guild Wars franchise as the pinnacle of skill based gaming, you can see where the adverse reaction to this gameplay change might have come from.
Chances are though, that at level 35 nothing of that will ever bother you, since it only affects the silly section of the game.
ALS, NCOA or SNCOA?
@OP:
I am accustomed to grind as well. However, I, as well as many, got into GW2 with the mindset of no gear treadmill, no item treadmill, no gear grind. Get exotic sets from whatever means(all same stat levels), and youre done…just grind for aesthetics.
Apparently ALL of us misunderstood them and they said ascended gear is in place to bridge the gap between exotic and legendary. Uh, well they were the same “ilvl”. Exotic = legendary in terms of stats. No bridge needed. But they said people got legendaries way too fast. Not sure about that. Anyways, its hear to stay..But they made two more fatal flaws, even if you have made your peace with ascended gear like I have.
1. Currently only able to get on the track to ascended via Fractals of the Mists dungeon. They are going to make it spread across the game, soon hopefully. They wanted to get this in before the patch but pushed the patch out the door..pre maturely.
2. Fractals of the Mists has a player gated system. Its a level system. Do it once, you get to lvl 2, do it again, youre level 3. Have to find people your own level in FoTm to do it. See the problem? They didnt, but again, working on a solution.
All in all, if they make ascended as easy to get as exotics, I wont have much of a problem. If i can buy an ascended ring with 50,000 kharma, Im OK with it.
If they make it cost 200,000 kharma, Im making a forum post on here with a big F you to you know who and quitting the game for good.
But you are right, by and large the rest of the game is still as fantastic as always.
Like every video game forum this place is filled with doom and gloom.
Form your own opinion and ignore most of these guys. It’s a great MMO that’s a blast to play with friends.
