How difficult is it in this game to start a guild from scratch? I see a lot of them have these sites and these mumbles and so on and so forth but is it really required. whats the general status of a guild in GW2?

from scratch without a single friend (real-life or otherwise) it’s pretty daunting. basically it comes down to why would someone join your guild AND stay over any other guild. it’s so easy to join and leave guilds here, hell u can sustain a list of i believe 5 guilds now without even leaving any of them. being able to represent any of those guilds whenever you want and w/o anyone really noticing unless they watching the roster like a hawk, makes it even more difficult to recruit reliable people for the long term. i mean you want people to represent right? cos if they aren’t they wont see guild chat and wont have any idea whats going on. sure you can whisper them and what not, but seriously that becomes counter-intuitive to them being in guild in the first place instead of your friendlist.

all you can really do is give it a shot, comes down to how motivated you are to do it. website/voicecomms etc is all optional, maybe it helps get members or maybe they won’t even care.

well with the guild missions and getting enough people to make the influence to run said missions im sure you will have a hard time, but i could be wrong. Depends on what your goal is……

It depends on what you want for your guild. If you want to keep it small you probably don’t need a website, but you will defenitely want a VoIP option. I don’t think I have been in a guild in any game in the last 5 years that did not have mumble/TS/Vent.

I have a 1 person guild that I created because I wanted more bank space. I also belong to a 500 person guild that I represent when playing. The mechanics of creating a guild are simple, it took me maybe an hour reading the wiki and experimenting with the guild representatives in Rata Sum. Cost was like 1 silver to create the guild. Running and building a guild is a different issue altogether. If you don’t have the personality for it, it may resemble herding cats.

With the introduction of guild missions, and tying some of the best gear in the game to said missions, it’ll basically be impossible to start a guild from scratch.
You need too much influence to even gain access to the guild missions, yet all of the larger, established guilds will have enough influence stored to buy the missions as soon as they come available. People would rather have access to them now than join a small guild with no access, so you won’t be able to recruit.

Please note that due to restrictions placed on my account, I am only allowed 1 post per hour.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

Some sure will, but not everyone will now flock to a large guild, which are prone to recruit every Tom, Dick and Harry that wants in. Some prefer to join with…you know…like-minded people they actually like to be with. Actually, I would think the guild missions will not have all that much impact on recruiting chances of smaller guilds. Smaller and larger guilds never have attracted the same sort of people, they compete less for recruits than most people think.

I started a guild a few weeks ago that is on the tiny side of the spectrum: just my wife and me. I have no intention of adding additional members. We’ve been able to accumulate about 7,500 influence through regular play and the free gifts you get from Black Lion chests (and keys found normally). We’ve been able to buy several upgrades as well as stockpile some MF (etc) banners.

I’m not sure how viable some of the new guild stuff is going to be with such a small membership, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get a chance to see it. (updating now).

I guess to answer your question, the actual creation of a guild is super easy. Increasing (and maintaining) your membership level is entirely dependent on your personality.
