Seems like there is not enough XP available even if you complete an area. All areas that I have been through thus far I have completed the maps. I am presently level 48 and I am to level 54 content. Starting to get a little more difficult than it needs to be. Although still doable. Seems like there is only 1 event at each level. Not enough to progress.

Are you using foods and utilities for the extra xp bonus? Any cheap food or utility will work so cost should not be an issue. I have never had an issue leveling with these buffs and I do not subscribe to buy xp boosters.

There is actually enough EXP to be overlevelled on each map if you complete them slowly. It is easy to get underlevelled if you rush map completion though.

If you head to Lions Arch, you can enter through any of the portals to each races city and there are exits there to 4 other starting areas (1-15) where you can complete lower level maps to catch up. There are also maps up to level 50 for each area.

Events are everywhere but only spawn about once every 15mins so its easy to miss them. Heres a link to a map that shows every possible event in the game. http://gw2timer.com/. Meta events provide good exp as the events chain and you dont have to wait around. Wiki lists them all.

You can also gain exp by crafting, gathering materials or using exp scrolls/tomes which you get from daily achievements and log in rewards.

Be sure to kill all yellow name tag foes along the way too. They usually pay out MASSIVE XP bonuses since they are usually alive for a long time.

Explore, find vistas and hero points, do dynamic events, harvest materials. All of these give experience, especially dynamic events!

Since you scale down to the level of the area you are in, you should never have issues gaining xp from from events from any map of your level or lower. Any event yields xp, so as long as you are exploring and utilising the map you are on or other maps, then you should easily find enough xp from events alone. You can return to your starter zone and level should you wish it.

Should for any reason you really struggle to level via events – hearts, crafting, gathering, vistas, boosters, hero points will all supplement the xp.

Maybe I am not taking it slow enough I guess. I am only doing things that are there when I come to them plus getting map completion and then proceeding to the next higher level map. Thanks for the advice everybody.

There is also Personal Story instances that you can be doing to supplement your exp gain. GW2 game world is huge and if you take time to do everything, harvest everything, raise every corpse you see and look for events and event chains you can level quite quickly.

You are also not limited to staying in areas that are for your level. You can go to higher levels and jump in on events that large groups are doing. There are champion trains that you can get on that will give pretty good experience.

It’s certainly possible to rush through a map and feel underleveled for the next map. And there are at least a dozen ways to avoid it.

But honestly, the issue is moot: even if you have to repeat part of a map, you’ll spend so little time to “catch up” that you won’t remember it in a month or two. Leveling is very, very quick in this game.

So follow the techniques to level up more quickly or not, repeat parts of the map or not, do some more events or not… and then move on to the next map when you’re ready.

Also, remember that all maps you’ve levelled past are still relevant. You’ll get downscaled, and you get xp based on your level!

They aren’t asking for it to be easier. They are asking how to proceed, because they are used to how it works in different games, where being a higher level can prevent you from earning experience. It’s a legit concern, even if the game already addresses it in a dozen ways.

Fancy pants the problem is not difficulty in finding content. Its just that I don’t like to repeat things I have already done. So if you do everything once and once only I am not finding enough content going through maps in order. I finally went to another same level area and started doing the content there to get enough XP.

every map has an entire chain of events, + hearts.

doing everything in a map will put you on the level needed or slightly under it.

saying theres only 1 event . is just weird because how meta events work.

There are dozens and dozens of events on each map. I doubt you’ve done or seen them all. Doing map complete doesn’t guarantee you’ve seen everything and focusing on map complete can mean you’re absolutely going to miss stuff.

Hearts are not the center of this game, dynamic events are, the orange “quests” that pop up on the map.

Every map has at least one "meta"" event, consisting of more than one dynamic event, and many other dynamic events as well.

The idea isn’t to run through map complete and run on. This game is best approached holistically. Focus more on dynamic events than anything else, except maybe for killing creatures that have high bonus experience. Use food and utility to get boosts. Use celebration boosters from daily log in rewards too.

Leveling efficiently I can get a level about once every ten minutes (or faster) just by killing mobs with high XP bonus. You should never be underleveled moving on.

Between gathering, personal story, killling mobs, event and then map completion you should easily be at level when moving on.

Here is a list of maps that are lower level than 48:

  • Caledon Forest
  • Metrica Province
  • Plains of Ashford
  • Queensdale
  • Wayfarer Foothills
  • Brisban Wildlands
  • Diessa Plateau
  • Kessex Hills
  • Snowden Drifts
  • Gendarran Fields
  • Lornar’s Pass
  • Fields of Ruin
  • Harathi Hinterlands

And here are few that are 40-50 level maps:

  • Blazeridge Steppes
  • Dredgehaunt Cliffs

Are you sure you have completed or nearly completed them all?

Yeah, this is definitely a problem this game has. Way back when they were designing these old zones they calculated the xp as if you had events left and right that you could do, but that just doesn’t happen. Sometimes you can 100% a zone and only see three events the whole time.

The only solution is to level through two zones at a time. Say you start in Metrica Province. After you 100% that zone you’ll probably be around level 12, despite the zone saying it’s a 1-15 zone. The next zone, Brisbane Wildlands, is 15-25, so what I do is go to Lions Arch and take a portal to a different starting zone (say, Wayfarer’s Foothills), then 100% complete that one too. Now you should be in your low 20s for level so you can either go to the new zone’s 15-25 neighbor (Snowden Drifts) or go back to Brisnane. If I remember correctly from back when I was leveling my characters I would have to do an extra about every third zone.

Here you go TC: http://game-maps.com/GW2/GW2-zones-and-levels-map.asp

There is multiple zones per level range until you hit 70+. If you actually world complete while leveling to 80 without using any tomes or experience boosters you will hit aproximately 40-45% world completion on vanilla zones.

If you stick to only 1 leveling path, yes you will run short on exprience and have to redo events. Best suggestion in this case is, visit another races leveling areas.

The way experience works in this game, you’ll want to stick to events slightly above your level. Otherwise feel free to play wherever you enjoy the area, it will all give decent exprience.

There is at no point in this game ever a reason to grind repeat events or maps for leveling purposes.

Fancy pants the problem is not difficulty in finding content. Its just that I don’t like to repeat things I have already done. So if you do everything once and once only I am not finding enough content going through maps in order. I finally went to another same level area and started doing the content there to get enough XP.

Have you noticed that there are usually a couple of maps for each level range? For example, if you’re level 53 you could play in either Iron Marches, Bloodtide Coast or Timberline Falls. It shouldn’t be forgotten that even if you’re Level 50 you can still go back and visit all the other race’s starter zones, if for no other reason than to hoover-up all the hero points therein.

I have played GW2 from release and was around for the New Player Experience patch which updated a lot of the leveling experience for new players. These days I find that you level much quicker, which isn’t necessarily a good thing.

I would also note that even on my 20th playthrough of the game, and after 10 world completions, I am still finding events that I’ve not done before and never realised existed. This, to me, just goes to prove that there’s still a lot to experience even when you feel you’ve completed an area.

Hindsight also comes in handy, of course. After I leveled a few alts I really got to know where the good events were. Events that had long chains with many foes to kill to really boost your XP. For instance, the top meta in Harathi Hinterlands. If you can be involved in it from the start at Seraph’s Landing then event chains like that are a great way to boost yourself, especially if you save XP boosts for times like that.

Generally speaking I find that keeping up with the personal story and bee-lining the hero points in other race’s zones to be more than enough to boost your level on top of the XP you receive from completing map hearts and events in your “natural” path through the game.

There are multiple maps with overlapping level requirements. If you find that you’re not leveling fast enough, just go to one of the other same-level or lower level maps. The beauty of this game is, that you’ll still get the XP for them, even if you’re over-leveled for them.

I was aware there where multiple areas I could go to..and thanks everybody for the input. This is what I am doing now. Doing another map that is level 45 to 55. I was just kind of commenting that there did not seem to be enough XP in the map I was in Blazefire I think it is named and I was falling behind just running from event ( orange hearts ) to event. The only time I would do other events is if they generated near the path I was taking. So I probably missed several. I am now level 51 and finished my story quests and about half way through both maps. So that does seem like a good way to proceed from now on.

Not really a complaint..Just an observation…

Wow at that website, that is great stuff. Been playing with it a bit. I was wondering, does it display regular events too? Not in realtime off course, or a schedule (since they are so frequent and often interlinked)but just location and possible pathing?

I am wondering how they like gathering and crafting.

If you are ‘done’ with a map and do not want to do it again do what has been suggested and do another level-appropriate map. Another idea is just do some variation: how about re-doing some of the events slightly differently?

Do try crafting as well. Cooking is pretty cheap, and jeweler i think is still fairly cheap? Leatherworker and Armorsmith were cheaper before the update which introduced patches to smithing armors, though I guess until you get to 300+ level in them they are still somewhat cheap compared to 400+
