Starting zone dead?
So this is your first MMO, is what you’re saying?
Unfortunately I think you are out of luck for the time being. Until GW2 has another recruitment push to bring in a fresh clutch of completely brand new players the starting zones will probably stay quiet on most of the servers. I know after leveling my first two characters the “right way” I now immediately karma xp train in wvw with any new character or jump straight to LA and craft my way to level 15-20. I dont really get any enjoyment out of grinding the same hearts for the 3rd time and such. I can say this though, the most fun I have been having with GW2 right now is to play with a couple of my RL friends. I would suggest trying to introduce a buddy or two to the game. It’ll be fun for both of you
The manifesto and beta statements are apparently a “living document” so you’ll not see 3x the number of events anywhere or players populating the starting zones.
If you’d like to play with other players then I would suggest going to Queensdale and asking in /map where the train is.
The game has been out for quite a while. People come in all the time true but it cannot be full every zone all the time. After the first play through you do not follow the same path leveling, some craft, some WvW, some focus only on specific zones.
Give a shout in map chat you would be surprised how many are around and just doing their thing.
I have no idea what the PvE pop is like on your server but I am guessing that everyone is heavily into wvwvw. On my server we are heavily into PvE so I see people everywhere.
Brisban Wildlands is one of the least popular zones though for various reasons- myself I never go there.
go take a look at Diessa Plateau, Snowden Drifts and Kessex Hills to see if it is empty too.
Guest over to a more PvE oriented server if they are- guesting is free and you can go to 2 different servers in a day
Me personally, I usually pop a cheater scroll to get to level 20. I have several them left as well. I then find various ways to grind up to level 30/35, then start to hit the dungeons heavily until I hit 80. I played one character finishing just about every zone did the entire story line and I am done.
If I start the personal story I usually stop it by claw island. I have most of what I need out of the personal story by then and I am ready to move on the bigger and better things.
If you have never done the personal story it is worth doing at least once, though I do prefer to start it in my late teens or twenties, the story seems to flow better then. I dont have to stop to level up between low level personal story missions.
Like some of the previous posters had said there is really no reason why anyone need to level up their alts the old fashion way (unless they wanted to).
If you been playing for a year you get a exp scroll that get your toon to level 20, and if you pvp and have tons of valor you can get exp scroll very cheaply. For most people they can get to lvl 80 in 15 mins and costly less than few golds (can’t remember how much for 60 scrolls but not much)
I am on the EU server, Aurora Glade, and while most of the starter areas seem empty (I like running through them to level my alts as I actually enjoy the first few levels), I am constantly in map chat, and if there’s an event going on, I shout it out and people usually turn up to help. From there, I’ll often find a couple of people who’d like to party up and tackle some other events.
I also enjoy finding a few newer players who might be struggling and taking them through aspects of the game or helping them out with their heart quests or whatever they want to do. I know some people would find that boring, but it gives me a different focus and I level without realising. Last night, for instance, I’d just been messing about in the Norn starting area to finish off my daily, and ran into two people new to the game and we got chatting about various aspects of it. It is really unusual for me to be the more experienced player or have to play with keeping other people alive in mind (I’m usually the one dying most as I’ll be the first to admit I’m not an experienced gamer), and it opened up a whole new way of how I should be playing the game – usually I’m solo. I felt like I’d learned a lot more about my class by the end of an hour, and I’d had fun gaming with other people.
I am on JQ as well, and I don’t see the same thing as you. I have characters all over the map (so to speak) and I see other people in every zone I am in. Yes, some zones are less populated than others, but in general, the Norn lands seem to be more populated than the Human lands. Can’t speak for Asura or Charr, because I don’t play there often.
Wayfarers is easy to level the first 15 levels than Queensdale. As long as you’re not on the champ train, that is. I always see people there. I have met quite a few new friends there.
In the meantime, give me a shout. I play early mornings mostly, but if you’re on when I am, I would be happy to hang with you for a while.
Same thing happened to me haha.
Just got back on this game (JQ server also), trying to farm on Queensdale train.
Every time I asked “hey guys, where’s the train currently is?”, and most of the time, even cricket didn’t seem to answer.
Not that there’s no train, I can still find it if i wait in one champ spot and wait the group to come.
I checked the LFG, guess what, they’re even selling Arah spot for 6g? 8g? or you’ll instantly kicked. Wow..
Why the environment seems to be so elitist? Or is it just my opinion?
^ hahaha!^ whenever I go into a new map my typical thing is to say " hello beautiful peeps what’s up?" or some such
On any map I get a bunch of people saying- “hi” and “just hanging around” etc- in Queens I get hi’s and hello’s and usually within a couple of seconds 3-4 whispers saying where the train is if I want to join- and usually they say train is xyz.
Or they talk the usual social stuff.
Not sure what is up with JQ
Or they talk the usual social stuff.
This thing is sooo rare I guess.
Dungeon? first enter = hi, dungeon end = ty, fail a bit = curse, fail miserably = kick
Rarely any silly chat on LA.
Low level map = dead or no chat
There used to be guild. But because of my prolonged inactivity, i got kicked XD
Nooo, I want a server with good community all around haha.
Not stopping me to play tho.
Yeah, it sounds a bit unfriendly over on JQ. The Queensdale train on my server is always shouting out in map chat to tell people where they are and where they’re going. If they’re nearly done with one champ, they’ll suggest you meet them at the next etc. There is a little bit of complaining done at times when someone else breaks the chain, but no horrible things said or sniping at each other, usually just polite requests to please wait next time. There is usually someone who seems in charge of the train and who takes responsibility for letting people know the format, which is nice, and I’ve never been on when people weren’t very happy just to join in.
Yeah, it sounds a bit unfriendly over on JQ.
Not true at all. I’m on JQ and am in Queensdale a lot. If you ask in map chat where the train is 99.9% of the time people will definitely answer. Maybe that poster was simply unlucky that day and caught a rather quiet group (which is unusual because people are always calling out where the train is).
And people talk all sorts of nonsense in LA all the time. They are probably too chatty. Honestly, I wonder whether he isn’t on at odd hours or something. The server is lively.

Brisban Wildlands is on my short list of zones I can’t stand. Mostly because of the Skrittsburg cave. I hate caves. I think in general most people would rather be in one of the other 15-25 zones than Brisban.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
