As Anet might not know about this, there is no MMO released on SteamOS. If anet can make SteamOS version of GW2 by its release date defined at november of current year, anet could probably earn a lot of money simply becuz there isn’t an mmo other than GW2 at the time Steam machine releases. Every people who loves mmo will buy this game but no other choice lol
Btw i think linux can catch up MAC desktop market share when Steam machine releases. In fact, In this past 5 years linux has grown up by 50% due to steam machine launch notification (from 1% to 1.5%) but Mac’ market share is still around 4% for past 5 years. I think Linux(SteamOS) will def surpass at least Mac’s 4% shortly after Steam machine releases. So i predict it could be at least a bit more profitable than mac for game company.
Now there are tons of games currently being ported to SteamOS version, you can watch live news of which games are released & ported to SteamOS at https://www.gamingonlinux.com
So plz port the game into SteamOS version to get into mainstream of gaming industry if possible, thank you~

ANet has their hands full already and porting a game, even a very small game, is not a light prospect.
The idea that they could finish their expansion, release it, and then in a handful of months port the game to a whole new OS is, frankly, ludicrous.
Ok, lets be realistic.
From that 1.5% share of the market, imagine it will grow like nothing else you ever seem in the OS market and it reach 5% … how many of those 5% won’t have any access to Windows, maybe 50%?
So we have 50% of a 5% that use SteamOS, from that small market how many want to use it for an MMO, and that share that use SteamOS and have no access to Windows and want to play MMO, they like GW2?
You are asking for a quite big change focused in an really small share of the market.
Thinking that SteamOS is going to surpass OSX is ridiculous. Mac’s are used as industry standard machines in most creative industries and are also consumer based machines. Linux is and always has been niche, SteamOS is even more niche since it appeals specifically to Linux games. That is a very small market.

Mac has 4% market share. If SteamOS has 4% of market share, this means totally different. Becuz not all mac user play game but all SteamOS users play game (this is why they bought Steam machine, to play game)
We have to wait until seeing the data that how much linux population grow after Steam machine release lol.
I know that SteamOS users are pretty much 100% gamers (if not 100%), and still how many won’t have access at all to Windows? Also many Steam users aren’t MMO players, from the MMO players how many has interest in GW2?
Currently the Mac client is still iffy and I’m not even sure if HoT will be available for Mac, imagine to SteamOS.
I’m sure that if Anet decide to work in something this complex they would focus in something like DX10/11 support or 64bits client instead.
Remember also, gw2 isnt even on steam, so I highly doubt that they would make it for the steamOS
Even as a heavy Linux user I don’t really see a market for GW 2 on Linux. I don’t think GW 2 is one of the desired games to come to Linux by Linux users, because I know that not a lot of Linux people play it, and if they do, they have a Windows box or KVM machine to play it on.
I know I’d certainly be more interested in native Linux support. If it wasn’t for the lack of compatibility with most of the games I play I wouldn’t even bother with Windows.
The biggest hurdle would be going from DX9 to OGL and to be honest OGL has been somewhat neglected over the years :/

With DX12 on the horizon, it’s going to be even worse for OGL…….I’m not complaining on that front though!
