Not everything in the world can be META. I know the use of the word is not new but never before has it been used so frivolously. Everybody in chat equates everything they have or do as META lately. I wish that word would just die already. The word is entirely overused, like SWAG, TWERK, and YOLO.

So there’s my rant, I hope it was META enough for you.

Odd. I never use any of these words and haven’t noticed anyone in map chat using them either.

But, even still, people will say what they want to say. Try not to let it bother you.

Whats wrong with it though? ive only really seen it used to refer to the current “Zerker” Meta…which its being used wrong, but still

Most of the time I’ve seen it used in GW2 it’s being used correctly. Occasionally people do misunderstand (mainly thinking it means ‘best’ or OP when referring to builds), but I don’t see how the meta-game being a common topic of discussion is a bad thing.

Word “meta” is so 2014. Now people use “metazerk”.

The OP convinced me. I’m going to switch over to Etam. Meta is sooo last week and I was getting embarrassed to use such a non trendy word.

And It is just good it exists; How else would you want to seperate the “Oh help I need to kill this before it kills me” from “I’m gonna run this path in close to record time with no significant damage due to my understanding of the game” ?

So I do not think this term’s use should be slowly pumped to a halt…. Just let ‘m struggle, like fish outside the water, until they know it’s just l80 exp which matters.

And trolling is so old it’s not even a classical art style anymore… It’s more like caveman behaviour… tbh I’d thought It went extinct about 65M years ago… guess there are still some dinosaurs left.

i dont think ppl really know what meta means honestly. not to mention, traits dont change that drastically usually. stuff that was viable at launch is still viable today.

well, in GW1 we called it FotM (Flavor of the Month), but ANet changed that acronym to mean Fractals of the Mists…. probably as a metajoke (yeah i know, i should have called it “inside joke”, but i couldn’t resist using the word “meta” :P ) so now everyone calls it the meta, because we’re geeks. not necessarily in that order. /endbadjoke

OP doesn’t seem to be aware of the gaming-specific usage of the word, and appears lost due to conflating the generic definition with the usage in game.

Who can blame them though: The meta is changing at an alarming rate.

Personally, I always play MEAT. MEAT is better than META. META is just TAME, TEAM-MATE.

Saying that something is meta, is meta these days. It becomes meta because every idiot plays meta today, and playing meta is meta. So why complaining about meta, when everyone who plays meta feels as a gw2 master, maybe we should just remove meta from this game. But can you remove meta in a game where the most people play meta? Hm, I think that doesnt work, because meta is now a part of gw2, and hating meta builds is just too meta, and without it gw2 wouldnt be gw2. So lets try to love meta. I know its hard, because flaming is meta, but we are strong because of meta builds.

I have been playing MMOs since 2001 (mythic fanboy). I have never heard the word meta used in relation to a game until GW2. I have to agree that I find it annoying.

In second life you can change your walk and any other animation. These are called an Animation Override, or AO for short.

When the game gods there reorganized the rating system to allow for adult content they started calling said content AO rather than the obvious AC, using game ratings for that (and only that) content rating abbreviation.

This caused no end of confusion when they were talking to their users.
