Veterans are nothing more than slightly stronger versions of regular enemies. I don’t see how they should drop better stuff than regular enemies. There’s hardly any challenge in most of them anyway.

all regular mobs should be upgraded to vets, all vets should be upgraded to champs.

all champs should be upgraded to hard champs.

also, champs should be able to cleave and AOE everything in its range and not be capped by 5

Actually, in addition to my previous post, I’d rather fight one veteran than 3 regular enemies. Veterans are easy to target when they’re alone, they’ll just take a bit longer to kill. They can’t gang up on you like a bunch of normal enemies do.

Of course, if they have a bunch of goons hanging out with them, this can make them quite a challenge but that’s more to the clusterkitten of goons and not due to the veteran.

For me:

  1. Basic: Good loot if any drops, bags.
  2. Veteran: Junk
  3. Elite: Not likely to drop, but junk.
  4. Champion: Bag of some, nothing interesting.
  5. Legendary: Sometimes a rare that drops no ectos since last patch…
  6. World Boss: 1 Rare to acc, 1-3 in chest, corpse drops a blue or green.
    Nothing, Never drops anything valuable…

Loot will always be broken as long as they balance it around the possibility that multiple people get loot, which when zerged, results is far more loot than what the payout would be in other MMOs. Loot needs to scale depending on how many people participated and what scale the mob was at. For example, if 100 people kill a champion, but it’s only scaled for 10 people, then only 12-15 people should get loot. If however 1 person solos a champion scaled for 5 people, they should get 2-4x the loot. As it is now, being undermanned only results in being punished. Unfortunately however, in a previous thread about loot scaling, a dev considered it to be griefing.

I find it incredibly broken that I can stand in a zerg and press 1 AoE skill to tag multiple mobs without any risk at all whereas if I solo that same thing, less mobs will spawn resulting is less loot and it’ll take more time to finish. The end result is that zerging results in more rewards with less risk and no effort.

Simply increasing the loot veterans drop would only further reward zerging.

The OP has an excellent point. The open world is dead empty. Why? because there is nothing to be made from it and there is no reason to return it once you have done all the hearts. This is a problem. When the open world is empty, that is very strong evidence something was not done right.

And who would get the loot? I think it’s unfair to reward some players, but not others.

I do think it would be fair to give people better rewards if they beat champions with smaller groups, for example 3 people, instead of zerg rushing it with a group of 20 people.

Loot in this game is bizarre to begin with, ran a story mode Ascalon on my 51 ranger the other night and had an exotic lvl 80 GS come from one of the silver boss chests. Every other one dropped green or lower items but they were at least level appropriate.

Not complaining about getting it, but I was blown away that I got something like that pre lvl 80

The problem with loot is that it’s so abundant that anything less than a rare item feels like trash.

Rares are ok, but only because of their Ectoplasms.

Exotics, at least the ones that drop, are nice, but not truly special or interesting. Most random Exotics aren’t even worth 2 Gold.

But then the truly rare drops like Precursors are suddenly worth more than everything else you have ever collected, combined. It’s so extreme, there’s no middle ground.

MF has nothing to do with bad loot. I’m at 167% base and I usually get NOTHING from vets, even in Orr. I’m so sick of the Frostgorge train, yet other than dungeons (just another type of endless cycle of sameness) there is nothing in Tyria that pays enough to get anything considered “good” in the game. I even looked at crafting high end weapons, but the cost of the materials is so prohibitive that you make nothing on selling on TP after the tax.

Its the result of supply and demand. The supply of good stat gear is about the same as crap gear. Crap gear regardless of rarity is effectively worth about its salvage value: Normal supply + no demand = garbage/vender/salvage. Gear that people will actually use has demand behind it so will be worth more. But the game has been out forever now so there is very little reason to need to buy a new set. Weak demand + normal supply = low price. Then you have the issue of ascended gear, which lowers demand for even good stuff even more. If it weren’t for the requirements for salvage mats that getting to 500 and the actually gear requires the price of drops would be even worse. The net result is leveling mats have more demand than the gear they can be salvaged from actually being used, and this trend goes all the way to exotic gear. Legendary precursors have very low drops and many people want at least 1 for completionist/vanity/ascended stat flexibility reason so there is both high demand and restricted supply. There is also a glut of money from champ bag farming and other LS events that have exploded the money supply.

dont bother with vets. They pretty much have no reason to be killed unless an event or thingy forces you. They drop kittenty loot as normal mobs with a 0.0000000000000000001% chance of better drop. All the drops in this game suck bawlz. So really no point in complaning.

All you really dont know how to farm efficienty. Money in this game isnt in champs or vets. Its in regular mobs. Although most have been nerfed, there are countless examples of how farming regular trash white mobs, yields the most results quantitively and qualitatively.

Farms: (Nerfed now) – Most enemys die within 0.5-5seconds and drop better loot than champs
1. Lyssa (Union) – People were getting 250 t6 dust in 1-3 days farming these trash mobs.
2. Cursed Shore (Plinx/Pentient/Shel’s) – Farming risen for days nets rares, t6 venoms etc..
3. Bugged Event in Malchors – Farming random trash risen again for great mats.
4. Fireheart Rise Defend Event (Linen Farm) – Killing waves of trash flame legion for bags worth 3s+ or linen 7s+ per mob
5. South Sun Cove (With old 200 MF Buff) – Farming newb barracuda’s in water netting massive t6 scales.
Or you have
Champ Bag – Takes a decent amount of time to kill Champ, even with zerg takes longer than 1 trash mob – 1-5silver from box. Worthless bloodstone dust. Chance at maybe 1-3 t5 or 6 mats. Green item (Low chance at rare, Lower chance at a exotic, almost always worth 1-1.3G max)

If you’re aiming to make vast amounts of gold from killing veterans, you’re on the wrong track already.

Have you tried running dungeons (at least 1g for each unique path per day), selling materials, doing world events (Jormag, Shatterer, Maw, etc.)?

Do not allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good.

Depends on what you consider low.
I have 198% between account bound + amulet + guild buff. It has definitely done something but that is just increasing the drop rate of rares from non-existent to rarely happening. Exotics are still something like once every couple of months on average. I salvage everything, mostly because it is more convenient not for the MF. I used to play quite a lot too(many hours a day) so it’s a matter of not killing enough things. The only thing I can think of that I might be doing wrong is not spending all day in Orr(never going to happen unless it becomes a less ugly place).

Edit: Oh but I don’t really see any issue with veteran loot. They are generally not much different from normal mobs anyway.

1v1 champ is a pain
2v1 champ is easy
3v1 champ is no brainer
4v1 champ is gimmi
5v1 champ is ‘what champ?’
champs need to scale better. bosses, too. not just more hp – that’s boring. But a boss and a champ should be able to take on 5 players almost as easily as 1.

simple, the moment they decided to completely ignore quests is the moment they alienate whole continents of the game, add quests and the world starts to become more active with players.
sadly most players see quests as a bad idea, all they see is the linear kind while never even thinking of the new and improved models.
why do you think most other active MMO’s are filled with players, because they have quests to do….

If I want to I could turn 100g into a 1000g within a month, easily, but it’s boring… so I go the slower way of FG and dungeons.

I’m going to say something that will be highly controversial on the forums. Shouldn’t be, but it is. Reward, in a game, should be for playing the game. The MMO has widely diverse opportunities for different playstyles. Open world PvE represents a playstyle for many. Play in the open world should be rewarding.

If you run dungeons you can earn 1000g in a month… 30 gold a day is doable even if you don’t run all the paths, AC 1&3 is 3 gold, SE 1&3 is 2 gold, CM 1&3 is 2 gold, TA F&U is 2 gold, COE all is 3 gold, HotW 1 is 1 gold, CoF 1&2 is 2 gold =15 gold. That is no hard to pug paths and only counting the bonus chest, not the drops, not the normal rewards, and not the stuff you can salvage from the dungeon tokens. Once you factor that its about 30+ gold a day. AC+SE should be about 1 hour, CM+TA is hour 2, COE is an hour 3, and COF+HotW is hour 4. Those times are assuming you are in normal capable pugs not a regular speed clear tour group. That includes the time to merch your trash and salvage your white-yellow drops and banking the mats.

No doubt I have run LA 4 times now coming away with 2 yellows. What is the point of doing this any further?

Keep going until you get a lucky drop worth more. I have only done 2 runs and had 96 bags the second run. From one of those bags I got lucky and got a forever black quaggin tonic and it was worth 7 gold when I checked the TP. There are also chances for items from previous LS so I would think that would be things such as those wings etc which would also be worth a fair bit.

Not only that but this is a good way to get tons of candy corn fast if you want that Mini that came last Halloween. The same deal again with those wings if you buy Zaitaffy.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

For me:

  1. Basic: Good loot if any drops, bags.
  2. Veteran: Junk
  3. Elite: Not likely to drop, but junk.
  4. Champion: Bag of some, nothing interesting.
  5. Legendary: Sometimes a rare that drops no ectos since last patch…
  6. World Boss: 1 Rare to acc, 1-3 in chest, corpse drops a blue or green.
    Nothing, Never drops anything valuable…

105% MF

140% MF base up to 200+% with food/buffs and all I get is complete garbage(blues/greens not one rare yet from new content)

and how much gold when you have a necro as your only lvl 80, not max geared and only have 2 hours to play?

Well it sucks that you chose a bad for pve class as your only character. But that being said I have necros in many of my runs, and there are good builds for dungeon running out there. Of course 99 percent of necros don’t want to actually play power necro even when its the only good option for dungeons so people don’t
like necros in groups (that and higher skilled players get more out of other classes, so the pool of skilled necros willing to play a decent build is very small). Heck I have a necro at 80 and while its not as good as my warrior, mesmer, guardian, or thief that I have at 80, its still good enough to be part of dungeon tours.

Time constraints? Do as much as you can. Lack of gear? Do more dungeons, get the gear. Its cheap, there are no excuses for being a lazy bum and complaining about being poor. Getting gold in this game is easy, even with 2 hours of time a day and not running dungeons should be able to get an exotic set completed in a week or two.
