They both have different and equally valid roles.

Outfits are far more useful if you’re levelling, whereas you can mix and match parts of the armour sets with other pieces, so they’re more flexible.

I think, if they got rid of outfits, they would have to also make transmutation free while levelling, or something; as it is cost prohibitive to transmute everything, every few levels.

Agree with this. Outfits are very nice to have while leveling a new toon so you don’t look ridiculous in some of that low-tier armor in the process.

I agree, I will never buy an outfit ever since I can’t mix and match. However, I don’t see a problem with offering both new outfits and new armor sets from time to time.

As for appearance while leveling, I’ve never worried about it because leveling is pretty quick. I don’t mind looking generic for a few days. I can understand some people like to look flashy while leveling though. But I don’t think that is a good enough reason to stop selling new armor sets for people like me that can wait a few days to find an appearance we like.

not only that. Most games have multiple costume slots allowing you to switch between armour sets. To keep transmutation system alive, Guild Wars 2 obviously can’t do that. Having outfits allows me to change my appearance on the fly if I feel like it.

Yes I agree that outfits have a role, but when ALL new skins are outfits, it takes away from the feeling of customization in the game. If for every armor skin we are getting half a dozen new outfits…. well. You can see where that leads to.

I will never endorse getting rid of the outfits, but many of the outfits could easily be done as the armor skins.

Give us both please! This lack of customization that the Armor skins offers is disheartening. I for one, do not want my character looking like a recolour of everyone elses just to have some of the newer pieces.

considering the ratio of armour skins versus outfits available, I believe that outfits have a long way to go to catch up on the quantity. That and a lot of new armour skins are probably locked in the expansion :I

Would be nice if we could use them all (i.e. both the current outfits and the current armour sets) as both…

In other words, if we use them all as a whole outfit (for free), or as individual pieces (for a transmutation charge).

Would, presumably, make each set/outfit a more attractive proposition, rather than restricting each set/outfit to solely one thing, or another.

Anet has been listening to the community and hitting the right notes, in my opinion. People don’t want to pay real money for something they have to pay to reapply: Outfits solve that. People want to earn armor skins as a reward for playing the game, not for buying gems: Carapace, Lumi, and Glorious armor, off the top of my head.

I’d like to see outfits become more modular with respect to what can be hidden, and I’d also like to see them pay a smidge more attention to clipping issues, but by and large, I feel like this is one of the more positive decisions Anet has made over the last year.

Exactly this, there isn’t much diversity in the outfits selection yet. Though of course I’m sure we all agree we still want new armor sets to be released along side of these outfits.

If they go towards outfits in gem store and armor in game I think that would be the best way for the game to go. Every time they put armor in the gem store, there is a big outcry against not having it ingame. Let them sell outfits in the gem store then.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I would agree to the idea of outfits in the Gemstore and armor in game, if they gave us more than one armor set a year. I mean honestly the Carapace is the only PVE armor in the entirety of Season two and same for the Glorious. And for the Glorious they also took out the previous PvP exclusive skins… So….

Again they need to balance the Ratio. Because again One armor Skin to Six outfits is a bit disheartening for one years worth of Bi-Weekly updates

Personally I think a mix of all 3 would make a nice balance. Outfits, occasional gem store armor (the flame kissed set was very popular), and in game acquisition. Yes, it would indeed be more work. However, I don’t like outfits because they become generic with no mix and match option, some armors in game I don’t enjoy doing the tasks to acquire, but if an occasional armor set pops up in the gem store I like I will certainly buy it.

It seems after the wardrobe system Anet started to step away from gem store armors. Probably because people were no longer required to buy multiple sets for alts. That and it takes much more work to develop gems store armor sets for all weight classes as opposed to outfits. A nice rotation between the 3 options, outfit, gem store armor skins, and in game skins I would welcome.

In all honesty, all Armor sets that are bought from the gem store SHOULD be free to transmute. I mean, we’re paying $10 for the armor set. We should not have to pay for more transmutation charges later on should we upgrade our armor or change to a different stat set.

Oh yes. Far far too froofy. Lose those shoulders and I might entertain buying it.

Anywho….

I don’t mind outfits. They can make and stick those in the gemstore. I’m good with that. I do want new armors too. They could make those and stick them in game. Maybe as collection rewards like Lumi. Maybe as drops like carapace. Maybe have a set tied to completing a certain set of JPs. Lot of play options that could reward a specific armor skin.

I’m greedy. I want both!

Y’know, this tangents decently to the kerfluffle from another thread. Why make us buy armor sets then charge us again with transmutation charges? (I’m actually just fine with the system, but it’s a relevant argument.)

Paid outfits pay for the art asset and the infinite, easy use.
Keeping armor sets in game encourages the content to stay relevant, and it spurs purchases of transmutation charges without “making” people buy them.

Well to be fair, have they really added any new armor sets to the store since they added outfits? The most recent where part of the game play. I’m fine with the existing ones remaining there, they were there first after all, and as armor, should be subject to the same trans cost as in game armor. Its not like you don’t get 1 free apply, which is essentially the same with any in game armor you get (u can put it on, counts as applying it).

Yes, you’re buying ti, doesn’t mean you spent money on it though.

It would be nice though to consider there were at least 6 outfits in the past 6 months and only 1 armorset, with a alternate reskinned version.

I hope they go back to the same pace as they released armors in S1…

I understand ppl are working on new armors for HoT but still why only the outfits… I would have loved armor parts of the balthazar outfit design , but I will not buy the outfit. I do not care for it cause I cannot customize it.

So I’ll throw some money into a dye now…
