The worst thing a MMO game can do is try and balance PvE and PvP. Anet even tries to go a step further and adds WvW balancing. Every time you balance something in PvP it messes up things for PvE. Not everyone plays both PvP and PvE so doing this can alienate both sides. If balancing has to be done then do a complete over haul of traits and abilities for PvE and a completely separate one for PvP. The constant tweaks of damage abilities is not new to the MMO world but it quickly gets annoying when every patch another class comes out on top until the next patch.

tldr: Don’t try and balance PvE and PvP…and WvW. It’s not going to happen.

So they should just let some Professions be overpowered and others underpowered?
Yeah, no.

What they do need to do is split skills more.

As LastDay says, splitting skills is the correct answer. Stopping balancing is not. The day an MMO stops balancing completely is the day it might as well close it’s doors. It becomes completely stagnant.

I don’t think that a complete overhaul is needed, or even beneficial.
Arenanet wants skills to be similar so that you don’t jump into PvP and suddenly all your skills are completely different.

With just number adjustments a lot could be done.
Reducing the damage Hundred Blades does in PvE or the damage Mesmer Phantasms do in PvP would change balance a lot without completely reworking skills.

What they do need to rework is most of the monsters themselves.
Most fights are rather boring and allow little play for crowd control abilities or anything else than DPSing.

I think it’s silly how fighting Ettis with a low level character is more fun than fighting many of the World bosses, for example.
