I went human and did the centaur thing. Woke up after being unconscious, did some renown hearts (that’s what theyre called right?) and…nothing.

I’m level 7 now, but I could’ve sworn last time I played at level 3 or so I’d get a letter telling me to meet someone in the city.

They revamped the New Player Experience so now your Personal Story comes in lumps every 10 levels. Once you’re 10, you’ll get to start it.

You used to get the letter/go-to right away on waking up after fighting the Shaemoor hands.

There are up and downsides to it.

The thing is the story is really made in 10 level arcs. So before you’d play a chapter or two and then in the middle of the story arc you’d have to stop and level up to get further in the story arc. What they did was allow you to play the story arc all the way through. The rewards have improved too.

I personally like it better this way, but then I used to wait until I leveled to 10 to play the whole arc through anyway.

I’m a little bothered by it myself. I used to roll a new toon once in a while just to get the black lion chest key from the level 10 personal story quest. I could usually manage the level 10 steps at about level 5, saving me time. Now I actually have to level to 10 to do it.

I am one of the ones that dislikes what they have done to the personal story.

Before, I was able to use the personal story as a way to help me level up, and it kinda gave me a direction to go, instead of just roaming aimlessly clearing zones. Now, I have to roam aimlessly, clearing zones so I can level up, so I can then travel back to where I already went so I can do my personal story.

I have several friends who have actually stopped playing after I bought them the game because they felt lost as to what to do. There was no story to guide them, so they just gained a few levels, felt lost, and just stopped playing.

I tried to tell them they only had to get to level 10 to progress the story, but they just didn’t like the fact that they locked the story away like that. It basically bored them.

To each his own I guess.

Yeah ANet could do a better job at least of communicating that fact that the story continues at level 10.

I believe this gave them a reason to redo the leveling system. What with this being the most popular key farm and all.

And yeah, level 5 was what I reached when I got the key. Seems about the previous average.
