Guild Wars 2

I logged in for the first time today and I received a strange message in my mail saying that my account was going to be shut down within 72 hours with a link given. I’ve taken a screen shot of the message for reference. The note at the bottom says that it was sent by a player, not a member of the Guild Wars 2 team. Help? Was this a hacking attempt? Or is my account really going to be shut down?

That’s a phishing attempt and you should most certainly /not/ go to that link, Uriko.
It’s one that has been going around for a little bit now. If such a thing was official, the mail would let you know it was from Anet.
As it is, if Anet has any problem with your account, they wouldn’t contact you though the in-game email like that.

GM Newfood! I wonder if all their scam emails are a combination of a random adjective and a random noun.

Got an email yesterday too, scared the heck out of me! Seems there’s an aggressive phishing and gold seller person/network this past week. There needs to be a GM parked in DR at the upper banks because there was someone there whisper spamming us for gold selling. Probably collected our account names at the same time.

Of course, we’re posting on here which makes our account names and easy target. Oh wells….

Don’t worry about your on-screen username too much – remember we log in with an email address and not our on-screen usernames. As long as your e-mail address password and your Guild Wars 2 password are both different, and we don’t go to these links, we are pretty much safe.
