No, there was another thread a short time ago about the same misunderstanding. I’m sure you could find it with a Google search of the forums.

As to the Streaming Client, I am a bit confused about waiting for it to download the files when attempting to enter another map, then being alerted the download is finished, entering the map, and having to wait while it downloads the files, yet again (just as it always has).

I do, however, like the fact you can enter the game before downloading all the files from the launcher (though a minute or two makes little difference, I suppose).

I don’t seem to understand what you’re saying about the “being altered the download is finished” … what streaming client does for new users is ..give them access to starting zones/maps earlier … while they’re still downloading the game.. and keep downloading as they lvl/play if they go to another map that’s still not downloaded the client will prioritize that map and download while he’s “loading” the map and so on… Gw2 is not the first game to do this.

This has been around for quite some time with another MMOs, for current users that already have the full client downloaded i guess it will just update what’s new while you’re playing .. so i guess you won’t see much of a difference .. i guess the only thing you could encounter is some sort of Lag depending on your settings and/or your connection speeds.

At least that’s what i think it does.

And as for the minute or two .. i guess for a new player it’s much more than that, if it works the way i explained above.

As far as I understood this, the streaming-client can do 3 different things (adjustable in the settings)

  1. Off: As long as you’re playing, you won’t download anything. If you enter a map that you didn’t download yet, you will download it during the loading-screen.
  2. Idle: The game will be downloaded in the background as long as you don’t need that extra internet-speed. As far as I’ve experienced this setting there’s no increase in lags and the chances when entering a new map are good, that you’ve already downloaded that map. This setting is the default for a good reason.
  3. Max.: This setting will continue the download at full speed even though you’re currently lagging as hell. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Perhaps, you’ve not encountered being in a map, and trying to enter another, and been given the option to stay in the map while it downloads, or going through the portal.

If you opt to stay in the map while it downloads, there is a download window you can mouse over, to check your progress. Once finished, you can enter the portal….where it puts up the loading screen (and if you have -maploadinfo enabled) watch while the files (assests, etc.) download, just as usual. I see no difference pre-streaming and post-streaming. /shrug
