Okay, I am about to head to [the video game store] to snag 2 Gem Cards. I am stuck between gearing my Guard, my “main,” my first 80, or using the gold from those gems to level my Thief to 80….

MY ONLY issue with the Guard is they seem to be EVERYWHERE. I haven’t done much dungeoning, so in “end game” are people pretty much like gtfo to Guards? My reluctance with the Guard is more of a social one, if that makes sense.

To someone experienced with both classes which do you prefer and why?

Guardian, I am obviously biased though. I hardly see guardians compared to ele’s/wars/thf so I dunno, maybe your server has a different class spread.

Most people dont mind which class you bring to a dungeon (unless they are running Citadel of Flame path 1 money runs). So dont worry about that.

In my opinion, Thief is much more rewarding; more damage, more mobility— which is what dungeons are all about

use it to gear your guardian and level your thief trough PVE or WvW. Don’t waste money you are able not to waste it
(if leveling trough PVE – snatch the holograms when you see them and sell them for cash. I myself got 50G by farming holos, while my friend was leveling and doing them as he passes them by and he collected 11G on a character that just hit level 30)
And when it comes to guardians in some dungeons they’re heaven to have (fractals and SE due to being able to put down reflect walls – the best ability ever, get it on your guardian if you haven’t done so already) in others they don’t harm the party so they’re as good as any other class. You should not hit problems trying to get a party with a guardian.

Guards are highly valued in high level fractals and are always nice to have in a dungeon group (normally as a one-off) along with the mes and other warriors. You’ll ways be useful, you’re always in demand and you’ll never get booted based on class unless it’s a 4 war 1 mes run.
