I know this is likely one of the most repeated questions, but in my (admittedly brief) glance through the forums, I can’t find a topic specifically about it.

I know that Wintersday ends “January 13”. Normally, I’d assume that means the patch time (for CST, that’s 6-7 PM) on that day, but for some reason my paranoid memory makes me think it’s usually the day before. Considering the three-day Grawnk requirement for the Star of Gratitude (trying to drag my friend back for this event, no reason if he can’t get it), I wanted to be absolutely sure:

Does Wintersday end January 13, 6-7 PM CST

or January 12, 6-7 PM CST?

Sorry for the too-commonly-repeated question

Wintersday will end when the patch goes through on the 13th. What time depends entirely on when Anet releases the patch. ( They normally don’t do well at keeping their schedules hour-wise)

So then we have tonight, Sunday night, and then Monday night to get the third recipe for Grawnk before the patch hits Tuesday?

The ability to finish Achievements, etc. will end at reset the day before. Just like the old Monthlies. (Well, at reset 00:00 UTC – whether that is day before or not for each player.) The actual Wintersday activities and themed release will end when the new Patch is released.

Grawnk, and the Chef, on the other hand, seem like they may be set to your clock; when speaking to them, they always seem to be on the right day….or they are set to PST. (I can’t tell as I share the same time zone.)

Good luck.

So… does that make obtaining the ornaments impossible or not? I’m not really worried about Achievements.

EDIT: Just saw your edit, sorry.

So… guess I can either pray, or get some notice from ArenaNet. Prayer is probably more likely.

Well, if you’ve not started yet, I would advise getting to it. Not much time left. You only need speak to Grawnk the three times. I think the Ornaments will stay in the loot tables, much like the Map Scraps.

But, if they won’t, there is plenty of time to get them….they aren’t time-gated.

Good luck.

Assuming the ornaments will stay is a risky bet. The map scraps are not part of anything seasonal.

True…it could go either way, as I stated.

Still, plenty of time to get the Ornaments if you have spoken to the Chef/Grawnk.

Good luck.

Yeah, I guess I’m just worried about that third reset required. I couldn’t get him in before today’s reset, so now I’m just worried about the Monday evening reset completely invalidating things.

Thanks for the answers. Guess it’ll just depend on what Monday night brings.

If you are up, you could try speaking to him in a little over an hour and a half. That is when PST time moves to Sunday. He might change his dialogue then.

Best of luck to you. =)

But christmas thing unlocks a collection. would they really keep a collection there without giving you the ability to finish it?

I’m not too worried about the collection, honestly. I did my personal collection of ornaments in less than an hour, so if they keep Grawnk for the Monday reset, meaning the collection will also be possible until the patch, then all should be well.

The collection part can also be sped up by parking characters at the JPs. Some of them are safe to stay at for days and days.

Ok. I spoke to the Chef both before and after 00:00 PST, and he does, in fact, change his offering (Saturday’s and Sunday’s) at that time.

Thus, Grawnk/Chef should be available until either midnight Monday (PST), or until the new patch is released.

Good luck.

I wish we knew if the ornament collection will be locked with the patch. The Halloween food collection was not, but the halloween recipes are part of regular crafting. So its unclear whether Festival collections are locked out when the Festival is over. And I don’t understand why Anet doesn’t just tell us. I would like to complete it but I am terrible at JP so its not a quick completion for me.

I used this helpful post: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/Non-JP-chests-that-have-Grubby-Package/first#post4682556 and finished it in about an hour after reading this thread. Not much jumping involved, really. (There are some other choices in the Wiki, as well.)

Good luck.
