Would be nice if ascended armor stats were on par with the stat increase that ascended weapons and trinkets have over exotics.
It’s definitely more than reasonable to up the stats considering the cost and time investment.

That would make ascended armor mandatory where it is now mostly optional.
That in turn would open a whole other can of problems.
As is, ascended armor offers min/maxers a nice goal while it keeps the actual requirements to stay competative reasonable. Not sure I agree with the idea to buff ascended armor.
They are. It’s just that most of the extra stats they give are extra armor instead of extra damage (as befitting armor), which unsurprisingly does not have a bit impact on DPS calculations.

I’m not sure we can use the “befitting armor” argument when it comes to stats.

There would be nothing wrong with ascended armor falling in line with weapons and trinkets. It’s more than fair or reasonable, and the cost alone justifies the stat increase.
The only players who would complain are those unwilling to build a set.

Except you misunderstand one key thing. Ascended trinkets have the upgrade component’s stats BUILT INTO them. That’s why they ONLY have the infusion slots, while armor and weapons still have upgrade slots, and why they seem to have a massive jump in stats.
Just say no to more power creep.

I own 4 full sets of ascended armor and I still don’t see the need to buff the stats on it.
Also trinkets are way cheaper than armor, thus while they are mandatory in pve builds now, they are easy enough to come by.
Unless you want to part with an even bigger part of the playerbase (the ones who play GW2 more casually) there is no reason to make ascended armor better. Or if you do upgrade the stats on ascended armor, reduce it’s cost by aproximately 70% (though that in turn would anoy people who made the armor while it was more expensive).
If you went through the trouble of getting ascended armor, be happy you have best in slot gear. That should be more than enough comfort. Alienating part of the playerbase is not necessary.

You yourself have mentioned that ascended armor is not worth the investment. That’s the problem, it should be made worth it and fall in line with other ascended gear.
Nobody is alienated from getting ascended.

If ascended armor goes up in effectiveness, won’t demand for it go up as well, increasing the price and throwing the price-effectiveness ratio out of whack again?
Kinda reminds me of people who say legendary gear needs a stat boost, and I’m going to apply the same argument: It might seem too expensive for the advantage it provides, but it’s still in high demand. No need to intentionally make the demand even higher.

It will be ok if they improved the stats. The economy will be just fine.

I argued ascended armor is not worth the investment from a cost per stat perspective. That does not mean it needs to get buffed though.
It all depends on what the goal of ascended armor and/or gear is supposed to be. For me personally, I like the current situation where the last stat increase costs the most. It gives hardcore min/max players something to do while not actually being required.
Not everything needs to be viable from an economic perspective. Asceneded armor falls into the luxury item category. Luxury items are less measured in their economic viability.

What purpose does improving the stats serve, though? Ascended armor is already in demand, yet people generally don’t need it. What’s the goal of making it stronger?
If the overwhelming opinion was “don’t make it, it’s not worthwhile,” that would be a problem, but people are making it, while not feeling forced into it unless they’re seriously into raids or fractals. That seems like a surprisingly healthy balance.
You people have completely overlooked something. Stat infusions. An alternative for those not wanting to do fractals and taking stat improvement in the base agony resist slots.
You can get +4 stat infusions from laurels. Or +5 from laurels and badges of honor, with minor wvw stats on them. However these doesnt have omni stats, and are bound by defensive and offensive limitations. Like my current setup have 10 defensive slots and 9 offensive slots.
You can also craft 5/5 infusions, 5 stat with 5 agony resist. Including an omni variant so you could potentially stuff every slot with offensive stats, instead of having to devote just about half to defensive. But those are insanely costly in mats.
Re-quoting this because the OP seems seriously hell-bent on ignoring this fact in favor of continuing his argument.
