[Suggestion] Allow Commanders to Change Tag Color in Squad UI
Hello ArenaNet,
I understand you must be very busy with the new WvW changes and the upcoming integration of Alpine BL, but I wanted to take a moment to suggest a Quality of Life change that will help a few of us adjust to the new system.
I am a commander on Gate of Madness (always have been) and ever since multiple tag colors were introduced, the number of commander tags on a map have usually numbered two or less on average for my server (1 blue, red or sometimes purple “Pug Tag” and 1 yellow “Guild Tag”). However, our recent pairing with SoS means that the chances of encountering multiple tags on the same map are much greater. This leads to an issue of identification, of which I will present a problem and solution:
Problem: Commanders can’t change their tag color while commanding, so when encountering another group of the same tag color, it is very difficult to distinguish one group from the other.
Solution: Add the same UI available for color change before a squad is created to the commander’s UI while a squad is active.
This, in my opinion, is a relatively simple change but could provide much needed Quality of Life in light of new population changes occurring in WvW. Additionally, it could have applications in open-world PvE (HoT maps, guild missions, world bosses, etc.) as well.
And a final word: Thank you for your recent efforts to improve our WvW experience. I can only speak for myself, but I believe these are positive changes that reflect the needs and wants of the WvW Community at large.
Thank you for reading.
Changing the commander tag color is a 5 second job – leave the squad, tag up/down with your color of choice, join the squad and take command. The squad system remembers the last color used.
That said, it would of course be even simpler if we could simply change it on the fly, true.
I would never think about this while in last tiers as there simply were never more then 1 comm around. But this week… it would be nice if comm does not have to leave the squad to change the color.

It’s interesting that you mention that, Dawdler, and thank you for your response.
There were one or two instances this week where I attempted to do that, and it didn’t work. I’m unable to post pictures at this moment, but here’s a general description:
“Commander A forms a Squad and tags up Red. I join his squad, alongside 25 others. Commander A assigns me as Squad Leader and leaves the squad. I leave the squad. I click the color change UI and select Yellow. I am invited and rejoin the squad. I select “Lead Squad.” My tag is red, not yellow.
I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem. It might just be a bug.

Exactly. This is not really on my priority list for WvW, but it would be a nice Quality of Life change, as I stated before.
This “problem” has appeared to me several times when i take over a zerge and got wrong color – would be nice to be able to change it

Did you just select it or did you tag up/down yellow alone first?

I just selected it. I’m sure if I had tagged up while choosing yellow, I probably would have tagged up yellow when I joined Commander A’s squad.
Still, I believe having the color change UI on the Commander’s Squad UI will eliminate the unnecessary hassle of tagging up and down repeatedly to get the right color.
Bump. I’m hoping a developer will take a look at this.
