Sugg- Skill Color Customization

I always +1 this suggestion, loved this feature in Champions Online. I want a purple Necro!
I would love this level of customization but I doubt we will get it.
For one, it would require that all skill animations be redone with a palette where we are allowed to pick the colors in it (or even just pick one of a few predefined palettes). For another, GW2 gave each class their own color scheme for their skills, and this would negate that. I personally think that the class color schemes are really kittening cool and would miss them a lot if people were allowed to customize their skills colors
What OriOri said: fun idea (I would pay gems to use it), except that the technology would have to be added to the game, requiring retrofitting existing skill animations. Better they should use their limited time to work on other features/effects.
I absolutely LOVE this idea. Even though it clould cause some confusion on PvP scenarios, that could be solved by restricting the visual changes to the player´s effects only.
You should prepare for your great finale.
Yes it would be a fun idea and yes it would take A LOT of work for Anet, But honestly think the return from it would be awesome. As someone who played CoH way before and after the change, the amount of people that loved it was huge and was def something to make people enjoy the game some more.
RIP City of Heroes

For every suggestion on these forums there are a dozen comments like this; people seem to regard Anet as an incompetent small-time studio unable to do anything whatsoever. It’s always about limitations, missing resources or too little time. Please, show them some esteem.
I know their resources ARE indeed limited, and that they are a medium-sized game house, and that they have to heavily focus on prioritization over game changes. But they have worked wonders with their old engine, and I’m sure they’re very capable in adding technology to the game to make it possible to have these kind of customization features.
That being said, I dislike this suggestion, since every class already has their distinctive skill colours and I like it that way. I also appreciate their working hours to be put into more demanding features (class balancing, LS3, expansion 2, etc.), but I get annoyed every time I see a suggestion shot down with these comments. If suggestions cannot be turned to reality, why are we even able to make them?
Just dropping this here, please carry on.
I don’t think Na mentioned anything about not enough resources nor enough time; just that existing resources could be spent on something else that would better suit Na’s preferences.
Much as others’ posted above^.
I’d rather see new content than a skill-color change, personally, as well.
as long as it’s disabled in any pvp setting
but even so, VFX makes bosses and the like hard enough to see as it is. I don’t want this problem to get worse.

On the contrary, I regard them as extremely competent, able to leap impossible issues with amazing code architecture and design. The game is nearly always up; updates only take as much time as your bandwidth requires. They removed Trinity, there’s no gear-treadmill, & so on.
It’s precisely because they are capable that they will turn a lot of great ideas down: they know what it takes to implement them and they can weight that against the benefit to the community (as well as whether it meets their budget and fits in with other plans, short or long range).
tl;dr if we hold ANet in esteem, then of course we should expect them to consider their limited resources when deciding among ideas, big or small.
This is what i want to have in this game with “Skill Skins”
Skill Skins, that provide all kinds of Skill Effect Changes from simple recolored versions, to more customized changed effects, like stuff for all the various Minions in the ga<me as for example that changes completely the look of a skill to a more customized alternative design….
You have enough iof the borign uggly necromancer minion design that we have sicne release day?
Buy now your “Necromancer Minion Style Pack 1” in the gemstore and unlock a new pack of several different Necromancer relevant minion skill skins which let you change out under the new Option Menu “Skill Skins” under Glider Skins the way how you make your minios of your Necromancer look like, when you summon them, beginning with these 3 Skill Skins Sets under the NMSP1
- Classical Set – Changes your GW2 Minion Skill Skins to a more GW1 based Classical Design
Blood Fiend = Hopping Vampire
Shadow Fiend =Skelleton Sorcerer
Bone Fiend = Skelleton Archer
Bone Minions = Hellhounds
Flesh Wurm = Banshee
Flesh Golem = Bone Dragon/Bone Shark (and by the way fix Flesh Golem finally to let it change into Bone Shark or somethign else fitting when going underwater, instead of losing the summon…)
Shambling Horror = Raging Cadaver
Jagged Horror = Smite Crawler
Locust Swarm => Bat Swarm (changes also Skill Names on display and the Icon of the Skill to show alos that the person uses a Skill Skin)
- Demonic Set
Blood Fiend = Succubus
Shadow Fiend = Shadow Imp
Bone Fiend = Incubus
Bone Minions = Shadow Beasts
Flesh Wurm = Gaki
Flesh Golem = Aaxte
Shambling Horror = Mist Vaettir
Jagged Horror = Spectral Vaettir
Locust Swarm = Will’ O’ Wisps
and lastly
- Undead Set
Blood Fiend = Flesh Reaver
Shadow Fiend = Bloated Zombie
Bone Fiend = Draugr
Bone Minions = Grasping Ghouls
Flesh Wurm = Chained Soul
Flesh Golem = Necrid Horseman
Shambling Horror =Pest Rats
Jagged Horror = Wraith
Locust Swarm = Vampiric Swarm
Just think of the potential behind this.. this would truly help in making our charactrs more individual, if we could have more influence on the visual skins of our skills, while the effects ect. stay the same, just changing the looks of the skills and Anet would gain another great source of money income from the gemstore with stuff like that.
And this was just an example for 1 class, thereres 8 others with same as much potential.
no. everyone smart enough to realize that black/brown/gray are for the most part the best way to hide animations, would do so.

If this were implemented it would be relatively straightforward for Anet to either disable this in WvW/PvP or have it be client side. Which means this wouldn’t be a problem.

Of course we should, there’s no question about that. Like I said in my post, I very much appreciate their prioritizing. What annoys me is that players usually don’t leave it up to Anet to decide, but shoot down each others suggestions without actually commenting on them.
Mhhm imagine Guard with flame like color vfx or Mesmer with crimson vfx…i’m drooling.
But highly doubt Anet will make this dream come true.

If you’ll read my post again, including the part that you quoted, you’ll see that I did comment on the idea: I would spend gems if it were in the game. I think it’s also valid for players to comment on the importance of adding such a feature, which is why I also talked about the benefit versus probably expense.
I can like an idea and still think there are better uses of ANet’s limited time.

Some things don’t need Anets decision because a reality check will clear up why it can’t be done. I think that’s all he was getting at.
I don’t even work with programmers anymore but for when I did, it’s a lot of code integrated into other aspects of the game so re-working skills to have colour channels could require a complete recoding of the game which could essentially bring the whole game down. That’s a big risk for something so minor.
On Top of that is everything else those skills would tie into such as Channelling, stomps, animations, legendary effects combined with colours over riding effects, there’s also the PvP side who rely on certain animations or tell tale signs for when to evade, list goes on and all of which would require a new code to accommodate the new change.
….. And Elementalist.
