The Idea
So if Anet would add this feature, it would allow you to check other players current armor skins or outfits. It would be purely cosmetic, not showing stats either total player stats or armor stats.
How it would work:
I would imagine that you could click on someone, right click their picture bringing down the drop down menu, and you could click Armor Skin Check. It would then bring up the Equipment Preview showing their character and the current armor skins they have/or the outfit. It could be then be tweaked from there, like which dyes are primarily used or you could include weapon skins as well. (but may be a little complicated).
Why would we want something like this?
Well I know when I explore or when I run in circles in town talking/paying attention to guild chat, I see some pretty amazing armor sets on people, some like to talk about them, some not so much. With this feature you could check and see what the armor is without having to disturb them. I have also noticed that there are quite a few sites where people can go show off their armor combinations and this would be another idea of how to show off some of the incredible armor that is in the game and people creative minds.
Another Idea
If you guys are still against any “armor inspection tool of any kind” then maybe instead of being able to do it live, there could be a way, you could make a template of it (similar to trait templates) where you could either use the preview function or what your current skins to build a cool armor set, and save it in a way you could send/link it to others. This could be useful for players that like to make armor combinations and tell similar minded players about them.

I hate gear checks. And do generally do not join people asking for it. I want to trust people.
People joining a ZERK group and clearly not having zerk armor are fast on my blocklist, as I repect the honest, not the leechers and/or trolls. I -never- remove ppl from my blocklist…

If you read the post then you might understand that this is only for armor skins not stats, and yes one could ping their armor, but what if they don’t? Then you have to search for it yourself, instead of just being to click their name and find out what it was. (which the last time that happened to me, I found out about a month later it was a gender locked outfit).
I also think they should add A tab in the bank where you could go and preview armors untill you find one you were looking for.
They could name it “Wardrobe”
Well I could do that, but the last time I did that it took me a week to find it. Also will I remember the exact piece of armor it was? What if it was a complete set? And will it look similar on the character I am on at the time? Who knows.
EDIT: Also I never found it in the wardrobe, I had to look online for it, which was even harder since I had no name for it. With this feature I could get the information a lot faster and not have to spend hours and hours and hours looking in a wardrobe.
Not sure if i like this. If i see someone who is extremely unique i will not even try to mimic their armor. If someone has a nice combination ive seen a few times before i dont mind taking ideas from them tho xD.
Altho its honestly not too hard to figure out with wardrobe…i just click through everything and sometimes i find better ideas by doing that!
Could always take a screenshot and post it on this forum or Player Helping Players to identify pieces. Most veterans can identify pretty much any skin, except possibly the dozens of variations of medium gloves (when worn with long sleeve coats).
But being social and asking them, and telling them how amazing they look could make them feel special. :o Don’t be shy.
While I’m not opposed to the OP’s idea, I always just ask, since it’s about the only social interaction I get in the game. Always happy to talk about mine, but I’m rarely asked.
