Instead of birthday gifts based on character age, how about gifts based on character slot age? I really want to remake one of my characters as a different race, but if I do that you take my upcoming birthday gifts away… Please mommy, let me have my gifts…

They could have made it an account based birthday. One gift per account per year rather than a gift per character per year.

I’ll probably end up remaking the character anyway, since the gifts haven’t been THAT huge of a deal, but then they’ll come out with something amazing next year and I’ll regret it :p

I agree with Flesh Wound. They could have easily made it one gift per account per year. They could also have made it so we didn’t get anything at all. I’m grateful for what I have and I certainly hope that they don’t change it.

Also, no, I didn’t make all my characters at release. My youngest has only just had her first birthday, so I have to have just as much patience as you do for your gifts.

It’s a celebration of the anniversary of your character’s creation within the game’s mechanics. It’s not a celebration of the anniversary of your purchase.

There’s no fundamental philosophical reason why one is better than the other. However, it’s how ANet has decided to reward us.

Actually, for sylvari, it is the birthday of the character as well, as the very tutorial is the birth of the character.

Birthday boxes are to reward you for not constantly rerolling new characters. It’s the same system used in GW1 with different rewards.

(it also probably helps them sell character slots, so I doubt there’s any financial incentive to change it either)
