[Suggestion] Change Ascended Stats
You can change legendary weapon status as you like. Would love it is Anet could introduce legendary armour with the same ability.
They either ned this, or make ascended items salvagable, because at present there is little more annoying than getting an ascended gear chest drop. Only to realise it has USELESS stats, and there’s nothing constructive you can do with it.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have an item to change the stats of a piece of ascended equipment? (…)
First of all, the idea is good, but I don’t think it should be done with ascended items.
ANet should bring legendary armor with this ability, and make that armor almost as difficult to craft than legendary weapons.
Why?
We would need a new crafting component, because who would buy blood for 60s/piece when you could craft it with totems at like 30s/piece and just change stats.
Something like this would totally mess up T6 material prices. They would all end up at 60s/piece and lots of people would be QQing about the expensive price.
The fact that loot boxes have “useless” stats is only because the whole game only has like 2-3 useful stats, because the other stats are NOT REQUIRED.
So instead of keeping stats useless, they should change content so that it makes sense to wear cleric or shaman or whatever equipment. Some berserk killing mob extremely hard to dodge with tons of damage to one-hit berserks. That way people might consider using something else. But that’s another topikittenil then these stats might be useless but still should not be changeable.
Ascended items are cheap in comparison to legendary weapons, but still offer the same values. It’s probably cheaper to build an ascended sword with each of the different stats than crafting the legendary sword.
And that way it should be with legendary armor. If you want the luxury of changing stats, spend lots of time and gold.
Gemshop is also a bad idea, since it might be considered pay2win and also might raise the gold/gem exchange to the extreme.
So, referring to your original question it’s a nay for me but a yes for legendary craftable armor.

Actually ascended is a better value than legendary from a functional standpoint, cheaper to make many ascended and each one can have a sigil that fits the stats without having to destroy the current sigil. If you are swapping a sword from power to condition and want to use tormenting, but have to drop 8g due to your force sigil, then ascended quickly becomes cheaper, as a legendary owner I find myself making multiple ascended weapons to support different playstyles rather than swapping my stats.
Legendary armor will be no more than a skin without rune swapping. Just imagine swapping out a 70g set of runes each time you want to play an optimal but different build, defeats he purpose of stat swapping being efficient.
This is also where anets debate that legendaries are more than skins falls apart, especially when there is no gear treadmill, stat swapping on them is poor for changing between different builds due to destroying sigils. If people feel like they need to make new weapons for their builds instead of using stat swapping for even one different build, then stat swapping has failed in its original design.

It’s already there. People just won’t spend money to do it (crafting another set of gear).
My take is since there will be no new tiers. Making additional set is there is used as sink.
I wish you could throw 2 pieces of ascended armor into the forge with a 250 stack of ectos and an eldritch scroll and have those stats available to be swapped out if Anet doesn’t plan on making legendary armor. If they do they shouldn’t do something like this.
That doesnt solve the rune issue.
I wish they add in the option too. I just don’t know if Anet willing to let us do it for “cheap”.
You can just craft another set of gear, but having the ability to swap without changing gear is more convenient and can save some inventory space.

This is kind of how I want it to work, though with maybe less ectos. This way you still need to get/make the individual armor stats, but could then consolidate them into a single armor that could swap between whatever stats you’ve combined. Like putting zerkers in with soldiers, to get one that swaps between those two, then combine that item with say rabid, and you’d have a piece that could swap between the three, etkittenil you wind up with a piece that could (if you took the time) to swap between all the different stat combos.
Please give us a keyring…

I….think people are missing the point. This is meant to only be for items that had selectable stats to begin with – mainly backpieces. This would not include weapons and armor, especially from drops.
Even if you don’t get the stat you want, it’s still a free 1g. Not a bad loot drop at all.
On the topic of changing ascended armor stats:
Provided one has unlocked lv 500 respective crafting and the recipe for the stats, one should be able to do so by applying a new ascended inscription and vision crystal to any piece of ascended armor. Ascended armor is too expensive to not be able to do this.
Aldo it should be easier to change runes on ascended armor without either buying the incredibly overpriced upgrade extractor, or overriding the current one with a new one, thus losing any expensive rune (strength, perplexity, etc.) that currently exists on the armor.
I believe that applying a rune to a piece of ascended armor should “unlock” that rune for that piece, giving your permanent access to a list of unlocked runes for that piece to toggle on and off as you please.

I see nothing bad about this. Adding unnecessary runes ,unlocks, gem store privilages ….is unnecessary
Even a re-pack option would be cool. So you can re-select from the original options. (From dropped boxes that is)
Also, would be nice if all the boxes are generic weapon/armour, not specific (glove for example). Kinda feels like double, even triple RNG. First, on which piece, then in the stats, if it is not specific stats to begin with.

Unnecessary if you want ascended to remain more functional than legendary due to their low price. Necessary to make legendary as functional as ascended, without having to craft ascended on top of a legendary.

Not if it had the same relationship to ascended armor as legendary weapons have to ascended weapons.
The ONLY difference I can tell between ascended and legendary is that the legendary can change stats out of combat.
Beyond the skin of course.
