[Suggestion] Change auto-stowing weapons
Guardian main since launch
I would love that! =3
I’m all for this; but it’s for roleplaying, so it’s not going to happen. =/
I’m always in favor of QoL improvements for the roleplay/machinima communities. Even though I’m not personally a roleplayer, I too would love the option to toggle auto-stow for weapons.
I’ll +1 this thought.
Sh _ t, this is a great idea but if I may suggest an add – on to the idea; make both weapon sets visible on character and give each weapon multiple stow locations.
Example, stowing short bow on the leg or hip while being able to carry a sword on back and dagger on foot or waist. You get the idea.
Okay, this is my one hopeful thread of the day. My flickering light of hope for such QoL improvements is already spread thin and if it goes ant dimmer Anet might not see it
I’d love to get some reply from the dev team whether this can or not be done, but if I don’t get some I’ll never know if it’s possible or if it will be forgotten in the forums since it’s just a Quality of Life update.

I’m very much in favor of this suggestion. It would be particularly useful when you’d rather have your charr character run instead of lope on all fours.
I think this is very doable as a simple check box in the options menu.
id love to keep my weapons out! i spend alot of money on them id like to show them off, plus i really like the idle gestures on some of them (warrior with rifle in particular) so i hate having to shoot every few seconds to keep them out
There is already a stow/draw weapon command you can key bind, not sure how long it stays out but it does some of what you want?
Regardless of the stow/draw command, whenever weapons are drawn, they will be stowed after 30 seconds.

yea the stow/draw command isnt good enough i want to always have them out
I don’t think I’d be in favor of this.
I suspect there’s a pretty large majority of people who don’t even know about the Stow / Draw command (or know about it but don’t care enough to use it), so something like this would probably just result in a huge amount of players running around with their weapons perma-drawn. Which would look really silly to me.
re: I don’t think I’d be in favor of this/would probably just result in a huge amount of players running around with their weapons perma-drawn. – The default could be “auto-stow enabled”. Then people who cared about it could learn about it and change it.

That’s why, by default, the option would be checked to auto-stow your weapons. That way, those who prefer the manual option can change that themselves in the options menu.
If they do this, they should make it a setting, because I for one would not like, and would love the reverse in many situations (like having to draw my weapons when I use a ‘speed’ power for travel).
While I’ll probably never see a solution like that, to meet your needs, they should put something in options that defaults to 30, which is the number of seconds to stow weapons. If you pick 0, then they never stow. If they can’t do that, then just a check box.
Too many times they ‘meet a need’ by taking things away from other people, and this is another instance where they could easily meet a need without changing how it operates for other people.

This is very unlikely to happen because it would be a huge amount of work for something that would appeal to a relatively small group of people.
They would have to create new stow and draw animations for every weapon, for every race and gender (if each weapon gets just 1 new stowed position that’s ((5*2)19)(2=380 new animations).
Then they would need to change the UI to enable you to customise the stow positions. This would probably require a new panel in the Hero menu, with either check boxes or drop downs or something.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I would like the opposite. I want my weapon stowed as soon as possible when I’m not in combat. Especially when I’m running somewhere and have to re-stow it every time after I use a swiftness ability.
I dont care, but why not?
A little gameplay option Auto-Stow on/off. With off you only stow if you hit the stow button.
If considered, then for God’s sake make it OPTIONAL, ANet! I’m happy with weapon stowing exactly as-is. Stop forcing changes on everyone because of a few voices. (I’m looking smack-dab at you, Town Clothing!)
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

Of course it won’t happen, there are many things to address before considering QoL improvements. With more additions to the game they will have more things to fix later on.
When I write this sort of thing, my hope is that a mod saw the idea and it stuck somewhere in their head and when they are designing GW3, he thinks oh you know what would be a great idea and somehow my suggestion has wiggled it’s way into the Anet development team.
At least when you manually take them out, they should stay that way.

Right there! On the nose, very good sir! The stow button should definitely be permanent. And to all the others, why would someone bother going into settings to change the auto-stowing setting but not set a button for draw weapon?

Then you already have it.
Just press the button that puts away your weapon.
It seems silly to be in a hostile area and for your character to be constantly putting his weapon away.
So I’d also like to see an option put in for our weapons to stay drawn.
I’d also really like to see both weapons on my character at the same time as mentioned above (and also in another thread).
i really needed to support this idea and bring it up again as im currently redoing my armor set on my warrior and i cant stand how my weapons put themselves away when im trying to examine and think about my new self, very immersion breaking! i need a check box in options for always out!
