Having colored commander tag is GREAT! however… If you were able to add a name to the tag it would help Voice Chat ppl cordinate better.

Exmaple: (WvWvW) multiple tags can be an issue especially when some have 1 thing on their mind and another may have a seperate idea (ie: 2 red tags 1 guy may want to go camps while another is going towers)

Example (PvE) As WvWvW multiple tags can be an issue, but when its needed in PvE it is crucial (ie: Evolved Jungle Wurm, getting groups together Such as Amber,Cobalt,and lastly Crimson).

Isn’t this what having multiple colours is for? So far, whenever a map had 2+ commanders, they make sure to adjust their colours so they don’t look the same. Most WvW runs / world boss events etc also don’t really require more than 4 commanders, so the current system works well enough.

If it’s insufficient, I think adding a few more colours of tags would be a better solution. Gogo green and orange!

though you bring up good points, its really not as sufficient as you think, consider this: WvWvW is up, and you want in on some action! you join in only to find 3 diffrent colored tags up if you were to hover over their names and read Commander “Enter Name Here” Pushing for towers, when others are going for camps, or castle then you know who to go to, rather than ask everyone and await a responce, or deter the commander’s attention from the battlefield to reply to all the postings.

In Eotm you have Karma Farmers, or Bag Farmers another easy way to tell is if they had it under their names.

And lastly Evolved Wurms are a MAJOR pain for commanders to set up because people loose themselves in all the cordination.

Im not saying its a MUST, rather a +suggestion.

Gogo green and orange!

At first I was wondering why these colours were not used, then someone mentioned Colour Blindness.

I honestly did not realise colour blindness might be more of an issue with these specific colours than with others. #thingsilearnedtoday

I’d like to see more colours anyway though BECAUSE RAINBOW.

Sorry. >.>

As for text boxes on commander tags to specify their actions in WvW… I just don’t really see how it would add much. It would be helpful if a specific goal could be more easily determined, but I’m not sure it would necessarily require a new feature.

Player initiatives here can be just as effective, I think, and the community can unite to make that happen with a little effort. What if (WvW):

Blue = Capping
Red = Farming
Yellow = Defense

…you get the idea, this could be something we might solve to some degree with what’s already there, possibly supported by a few more colours (RAINBOW!) if we somehow run short.

I’ve honestly not seen confusion in PvE at big events like the Jungle Wurm just because of the colour of the tags. In fact, what I suggested already exists there to some degree. Cobalt head = blue tag, Crimson = red tag, and Amber = yellow tag. (Yellow switches to pink once the event starts to be better visible among the coloured drops that team gathers.)

The UI is a bit convuluted and messy in places, and could definitely do with some polishing/refinement. I just don’t think that adding more text in this way would be an improvement. I can see how more clarity about which tag does what would help, though.

The OP has a good idea going and I can really respect where Anet is going with the color commander tags. However, I really wish Arenanet would just replace the commander tags (doritos) with actual symbols that commanders can designate. Rather than colors, why not replace the tags with a Sword (attacking), Shield (defending), Supply Crate (support), Binoculars (recon). With each of these respective symbols one can even rank up the symbol dependent on your WvW rank so that not everyone who has 300g can be a commander. So for example a commander who is taking towers/keeps puts on a Sword tag, visually I can see that he’s a very good commander because he doesn’t just have 1 sword on his tag, but he has two gold colored swords on his tag probably telling me that he’s WvW rank 1500+ I would rather follow a 1500 than a WvW rank 40 and I’m sure some people can agree with me when I say that their are alot of trolly commanders out there who can’t back up their tag when they pop it out. This can even be a way to distinguish true WvW grinders out there with some prestige and would get the community working a little harder to earn those high level tags.

tl;dr Replace color tags with symbols representing roles in WvW. Rank up in WvW, gain prestige to unlock newer and distinguishable tags that back up your experience in WvW. Example WvW Rank 1-250 Sword icon (1 sword) 1500-2000 Sword icon (2 gold swords/axes).

Well put, a Experienced Commander tag (leveling system) would be an amazing system to implement.

The problem is, that the very same tag will not do the same thing all the time. I’ve yet to see a commander who only goes for camps, or only goes for towers. They all do different things and it might change every 1-20 minutes. Sometimes they might even decide to go cap a tower but then rather go and help out defending Hills because a huge blob was reported to be attacking it, changing their course of action multiple times in a matter of less than a minute. They would spend more time adjusting the text of their tag than actually playing.

It’s rather easy… just make some guidelines on your server. For example, blue tags are public raids (aka pug-zerg), yellow tags are closed guild raids, etc.

In PvE, it’s even easier. “If you want to help with this, stack up on the blue tag!” – “More players needed for /dancing at the red tag!” This was done before too; just that you had to say the name of the commander instead of the tag-color.
