Suggestion: convert cultural armor and weapon vendors so that they sell account-bound skins instead of soulbound gear. This could also apply to Orders armor & weapons.

Background: Originally, there were various balance/gameplay reasons in selling soulbound gear that was L35, L60, and L80 rare items with specific stats. With the introduction of the wardrobe system, the primary value for most players is the ability to reskin their gear.

Unfortunately, this means most veterans will pay twice: gold (or karma) for each item and at least one transmutation charge. Except for rare cases, the original acquisition will be largely wasted, since the level, stats, or rarity will be a poor fit for the character.

I recommend replacing the system so that spending the gold (or karma) gives the player a skin that can be applied once for free.

+1 totally agree with this suggestion.

Added: Now that we have a skin acquisition system in place, The LA Lionsguard weapon set NEEDs a fix. kitten are all the same skin. Who in their right mind would pay the T3 karma prices when you can get T1 versions for cheap.

They need to preferably make new models for T2 and T3 and just make them skins for purchase with the OP’s suggestion or consolidate the tiers into one for maybe a mark up on the price of T1 by 1000-1500karma.

I think the OP’s idea of just making these vendor sold items into skins is perfect because that would solve a lot of the double dipping into our pockets/wallets here.

I’ve only used the T1 versions as base items for stats, then will wear blue/green items til 80 after 3stat items appear. Lets face it, I have yet to really notice a difference in blue/green/yellow gear. Because of this I think I usually will upgrade every 15-20lvls til 80. At 80 I will actually then start caring about what I’m wearing.

I like this idea. I had a T3 Asura heavy helm sitting in my inventory because I couldnt use it, I just wanted the skin, and with no more transmutation stones, I am left with an item unused.

It wouldn’t be such a big deal if they were in any way salvageable. I have a Warden’s Greatsword sitting in my bags that I can do literally nothing with. It’s soulbound and rare and the skin is unlocked but it’s useless and I can’t even break it down. Skins would be the best solution.

Just letting us salvage vendor items would be a plus. Its rather silly that things bought bought with Karma, WvW badges and gold from vendors refuse to be salvaged. I saw the reason behind this at the time, but I think we have moved passed the need for it. Karma isn’t as plentiful as it was, (although I still got 9 million and very little to spend it on)

There is no reason not to break down the old gear we don’t need now that we have ascended. Before we had to transmute the armor over it. Now just making it skins or something would at least give us something
