Come one Anet hundreds of people have asked for duels. When is it enough? We want duels! we want to test our skills with the best players out there. 1 vs 1 in WvW is not even and not secure as anyone can come and disrupt the fight.

as long as there is an option to auto-decline.

i hate running through a city and getting bombarded with random duel challenges that I have no interest in or time for.

however, I wouldn’t hate on a duel option. more options are always good, and never hurt, imo.

If they do this they’ll have accepted 1v1 as a legitimate play style. Meaning you have to balance around it. For now they focus more on larger scale fighting where a bit of teamwork is more the focus.

Just saying, it’d make them have to balance around 1v1 as well as 5v5, full scale combat in WvW and PVE. Just… one more place to have balancing… I understand why they’re hesitant.

I too hope they add in dueling arenas if not for anything else than to stop people from asking for dueling again and again.

The last thing we need is a ton of “balance suggestions” based on 1v1s.

And if you say that WvW is “not even”, how is open world any more so? After all, the gear is the same, the only difference is Borderlands Bloodlust, which really isn’t major enough to be considered a factor.

If you want dueling on an even ground, go to sPvP, they already have private arenas.

I dont have a problem with duels, but i dont want Anet to waste time on something like this, because there are many existig problems/bugs/imbalances in all gamemodes, and before they add duels, they should fix those IMO

For me, and propably also for Anet, duels are a project with a very low importance.

Every day, it seems, I see a new thread in the Profession Balance forums saying, “Profession X is OP.” or “Bunker Y is OP, I can’t get them off a point.” People are already complaining about 1v1 balance. All ANet has to do is say, “We will add duels and will continue to balance the game as we always have.” We’d still see 1v1 complaints, just as we do now.

no matter what the PVP structure is, the majority of PVP players will make their balance complaints based on 1vs1. always. even if 5vs5, 10vs10, or WvW Zerg is Officially declared as the only mode that the Devs balance around, nearly every complaint and request for balancing will be made based on a 1vs1 focus.

because that’s just how MMO players have always been, and always will be.

I don’t care for duels. I am not part of the “we” in the thread title.

If ArenaNet wants to introduce duels in an inobtrusive style (auto-decline, option to make duels invisible or put them in arenas in the cities etc.), I won’t oppose it but there are a lot of features and bug fixes which are more important in my opinion.

They just need to change pvp settings so there is non capture matchs but kill based matchs and everything with dueling will be fixed. Could also have battle royals. Much easier to implement and prevents the complaints most have of pve dueling.

The OP’s entire point was to push the idea that “people want duels”. The only response that requires is “actually, many of us don’t”. This has been discussed to death before, and other than pointing out the OP’s blatant dishonesty in trying to present this as a universally desired feature, I don’t see that there is anything that needs adding, that has not been said many times before.

If duelling means randomly challenging people in the open world, then I’m against it. I already spend enough time filtering out all the goldspammers, don’t feel like also having to filter out the duellists.

Yes PLEASE! They said they would add this when the game first game out and now it’s almost 2 years old. People have been asking for it over and over and over again. SURELY Anet is working on this. I think having duels will help Anet to see imbalances in professions easier and strengthen PvP in the game, not that it’s weak. It will also help newer players to GW2 PvP to get into it. Just PLEASE have an auto decline option for those that don’t like to duel or dont want to be bothered by trolls. And be able to block specific individuals from challenging you.

There are many reasons against Dueling, i will just provide you my main reason: If you want this as a serious feature, there would be a lot of programming involved, you just cant copy&paste wvw or pvp balance, as you have to consider bystanding neutral players etc… I just dont think the gain is worth the time of Anets devs, as there is a lot of imbalance/work to do in existing gamemodes that should be done before. As you see, most of these posts have 10-20% pro duel-post, 50% Idontcareaslongasicanignoreit posts and 30% of those who say NO !

I think it is more expanding custom area options of match types and description could include who scored most points in it aka who won most duels. although im not an expert on this. I think Leader board for custom arenas would be interesting.

Could not possibly be more uninterested in dueling. Extra map content certainly. Looking at the world map, we’ve got barely half the world uncovered.

I’d rather go see what’s on the other side of the mountains and poke about in a cave than fighting which ever random that comes along and wants to get a feather in their cap. Dueling is about ego stroking which is not something we need

Game pvp has been in development for years when it came out, as a result class and profession balances are based on group combat.

More divide in the pvp community.

Duel seeking people are a minority.

There exists hotm custom arenas which can act as a duel arena and is instant travel which rules out the reason of “dueling people i meet in the open”.

A lot of these open world dueling people just want to show off their kitten on open 1v1 which can often not be a level playing field, others want some sort of validation for their unofficial game mode.

Some professions are designed better for 1v1 than team fights. Some can be hard counters.

Implementing dueling as a function will imply they acknowledge that it is an official game mode which means they have to balance professions and skills with a new set of constraints, and many will complain the lack of focus on it as time goes.

Aside from a financial standpoint, there are many reasons why not to spend any resource on this.

I would prefer that the default be auto-decline. I think it would be better for a player to have to make a choice to opt in, not to opt out.

ANet has said that they want to implement this, I think these threads are a good place to remind them that some portion of their playerbase is still interested, and to provide feedback on ways to avoid negatively impacting those who do not desire to participate in duels.

You are missing the point, Duals are PvP – that is where they belong. They do not belong in PvE and A.Net has already stated that the PvE part of the game was NOT designed for ANY PvP elements.

People chase you around the place making a pest of themselves spamming challenge—-its a pain in the small fluffy mammal that goes meaow!
What next? WvW in pve? Walking to do an event and an enemy zerg pops around the corner?
Keep that pvp genie well and truly locked in its bottle where it belongs.

i dont think that’s the reason we’re not getting duels, but it is disheartening that so many people buy and perpetuate the “duels = harassment/ego stroking/12 year old duel spammer” claims.

It’s been about a month in wildstar for me and i still haven’t gotten a single duel request. It’s a great feature but the claims on these boards about inevitable and widespread harassment, or dueling only being a tool used to bother others are outlandish. I realize i’m only one person, not the best sample size, but going into it based on what i read on these boards i expected to have been called a coward for refusing a duel request at least once by now.

WvW is a combination of PvP and PvE and that is the point. it is a transition from total PvE to PvP in a more controlled map.

last time i saw a thread like this about 80% were against duels, the reason why you don’t see “remove duels” threats because it isn’t in PvE.
if it was, i can guarantee that allot of players would leave the game permanently, apparently it does hurt someone

Not everyone is one the same page as you. In every duel thread, the majority of people are saying no. Also in many of those same threads, its generally a small group of people who keep re-iterating how anti-duelers are wrong, and duels need to be brought in because “Other games have them”, and “It doesn’t hurt anyone”. Yet have been shown again and again that open world dueling tends to create a toxic environment.
