[Suggestion] Food that does not give EXP
Perhaps I have missed it, but it seems all food items give 10% exp on killing foes.
I know a lot of folks enjoy leveling as quickly as possible and that’s fine. But for my playstyle, my GW2 characters level too quickly. Virtually everything they do awards experience. Thus, my characters are rapidly approaching 80 even though they are nowhere near done exploring. As far as world completion goes, my highest World Complete is only 50ish% done at level 78 (gah, she just keeps getting exp!!!).
I know the game doesn’t “end” when I reach 80, for me, it does, in a sense. The idea of having exp going to waste saddens me. And, while the Masteries concept is nice, the only Mastery that I’m somewhat interested in is hang-gliding, and that can’t be used in the old world (at least that’s the way I understand it).
I would love to use food for stat boosts (and for the achievement), but food increases exp, so I had to stop. Is there any food that doesn’t give exp? If not, might ANet consider making some?
you’d get to 80 way before you finished exploring the game. don’t forget you get bonus account XP from AP chests too. I think some foods give karma boosts, but not sure if they also give XP too.

No. All food gives exp.
From the wiki: Food
All food grants +10% experience from kills for the duration, unless otherwise noted (e.g. Halloween food which grants +15% experience from kills).
ANet may give it to you.
it’s not possible to get 100% world completion before getting to lv80.
also, in about 2 weeks, the exp wont be wasted with mastery system. well unless you dont have HoT
Incoming Quaggans [iQ]
Ice cream gives 5% Karma.
Wouldn’t gaining buffs also speed up the leveling process? Increase X stat makes killing mobs quicker, vitality or survivability buffs means less downtime, etc all of which speeds up the process.
To BrotherBelial and NTDK: yes — getting to 80 so far in advance of world complete makes me sad (game-sad, not RL sad). I wish I could slow the leveling process, OR keep leveling to infinity.
To Just A Flesh Wound: That’s where I got my initial information that all food gives exp. I was just hoping the wiki was out-of-date or that there was some hidden food that hadn’t been discovered.
To Zomaarwat: I didn’t know that! Thanks for the info!
To BrooksP: I hadn’t thought of it in those terms but that makes sense. Sooooo, not only am I already getting an accelerated exp boost with food but I’m getting actual extra exp on top of that. It’s just too much.
You don’t have to stop exploring when you hit level 80 you know. You can continue to do whatever you are doing at lower levels. Keep on doing maps and events. That’s completely up to you. 80 is just a number. I know you said that exp after 80 is going to waste, but that’s how you feel now. They haven’t told us all the Mastery tracks we are going to get. Maybe there will be one that you’ll want to do, or you’ll change your mind later on one.
ANet may give it to you.

Tbh I feel for the OP. The one thing that I utterly despise about GW2 is the fact they have a leveling system in the first place. They have this beautiful game world and a decent event system, yet they have the unnecessary leveling system and leveled zones.
Personally I try to speed through the leveling process so my character isn’t limited due to relatively poor and restrictive class system, then go back and explore the world. However even with the rebalancing of level scaling many areas really aren’t a challenge, which does make it somewhat boring.

^This.
I can’t stand some of the level restrictions. I recently leveled a mesmer, and pretty much used ToK for her entire leveling experience. Now that I have the full class to work with, I will actually enjoy playing more.
Also, I have no idea what the point of “leveling” past 80 even is. Didn’t it used to give you something every time you “dinged” after 80?
It use to give skill points which could be used for MF items. Now it really does nothing, at least until masteries come out.
Don’t worry. Soon (if you have HoT) your level number will disappear to be replaced by a new number, that will start at 1. You can ‘level’ all over again! =)

That’s true and a very good point. With the expansion, all level 80s with HoT will start off at a low Mastery Point level and increase as they get more.

So next someone asks for food that gives no exp and has no food effects .. because
its too complicated to simply DO NOT USE FOOD
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Chocolate Chip Ice cream doesn’t boost exp, only one I know of lol
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
I wonder… if people don’t have HoT, will they still accumulate (unspendable) Mastery points? Or will any experience earned simply be wasted? It would be nice if the points were banked. That would be incentive to eventually spring for HoT for those who don’t get it on Day One.
Beldin, I don’t see the need for the snarkiness. I explained that I enjoy having the stat boosts but would rather avoid the additional exp bonus piled on top of that. It’s not a matter of me being too dense to simply “not use food”. I already don’t use food.
Scribe the Mad, I didn’t know that about the Chocolate Chip Ice Cream! I’ll look into that.
Based on what happened during betas when a mastery line was maxed, if you don’t pick another line then the exp is wasted. There was a pop up warning to chose another line. If not chosen then I doubt the game is set up to remember how much exp you’ve earned.
ANet may give it to you.
well its not entirely true to say that leveling up currently at 80 is a worthless, you do get spirit shards after all. you might not think anything of it now but perhaps you might notice it a year or two after masteries have been active and you havent had that extra source of spirit shards in the background.

Not having it accumulate would provide a greater incentive.
“I should buy HoT ASAP so this exp isn’t going to waste”
vs
“No need to hurry since this exp will be there whenever I get around to buying HoT”

I’m afraid you don’t gain a Spirit Shard when you gain a level after 80. You, previously, gained a Skill Point, but that was discontinued with the Hero Challenge/Spirit Shard/Hero Point change.
