In this post I will try to describe, in an itemized way, what I envision for Guild Vehicles. I don’t have any reason to think Anet would make this happen, but I think it sure would be sweet if they did. My hope is that if I paint a good enough picture they’ll find the idea irresistible, or at least share some thoughts on the subject. So here goes.
Guild Panel: Vehicles section
— 3 sub-sections. Ships. Airships. Tanks.
— Each sub-section starts with a small basic vehicle. Subsequent upgrades can include bigger and fancier versions, as well as added weapons and accessories.
— A guild can eventually unlock all upgrades for all vehicles if they choose (and they are encouraged to do so).
— A small guild or a large one are equal in the number of vehicles they can deploy, regardless of what’s unlocked. Only one vehicle of any type can exist per guild per zone at any time.
— All vehicles travel at default run speed, possibly up to +10%
— All vehicles display the guild banner.
— The vehicle is spawned by an officer or above (or anyone with permissions I guess). It may be unsummoned if it hasn’t been in combat recently.
— If it is destroyed, there is a long cool down (say 30-60 minutes) before it can be deployed again. It will also show increasing damage the more it takes.
— Otherwise, it despawns after 10 minutes if it has had no activity from a guild member. If it despawns from time out, there is no cool down (or not much).
— Vehicles can be destroyed in WvW or PVE by any hostile mob, weapon, vehicle, player or anything else that causes damage.
— All vehicles can be deployed in open world PVE or WvW so long as the area physically supports it (and no jump puzzles or “inside” areas).
— Vehicles need one player to pilot, others to man weapons or other features. Not a solo thing unless you’re just cruising.
— In WvW, if all enemy players are dead/gone from the vehicle, you can steal and use it. It will however despawn as usual with no activity from the guild that owns it. (or you can destroy it for the cool down. maybe a little of both)
AIRSHIPS
— The weakest hit points and firepower. But most freedom of movement.
— 2 weapon placements plus a Bomb.
— Altitude limited to no higher than weapons range from ground level.
— Extra feature: Extendable platform for boarding enemy airships or other things.
TANKS
— Medium hit points and firepower.
— 4 weapon placements. 2 per side. As well as a strong short-range forward gun.
— Imagine those huge Charr tanks in Ascalon. Similar to that size when upgraded.
— Extra feature: Extendable platform on the top for scaling castle walls.
SHIPS
— The largest vehicle when upgraded (perhaps similar in size to an Orrian barge, with as many decks).
— Most hit points and most firepower. But also most limited in where it can go.
— 8 weapon placements. 4 per side.
— Extra feature: Possibly a loading platform and area to transport a tank.
— Extra feature: Deep Pressure Suit for being able to go very deep underwater.
This allows you to sink down and walk on an ocean floor. So deep you start dying if you try without a suit. The suit works like a mining node ..everyone can get one. It has a water-jet pack activated by SPACE. You otherwise have your normal water skills. Ships do not despawn as long as pressure suits are in use by guild members, as they are part of the ship) There should be new content for this, perhaps DSD/Largos-related.
(Bonus!!!)
SUBMARINES
— A Guild Sub should basically be like an underwater airship.
— 2 weapon placements (torpedoes of course).
— Extra feature: Deep Pressure Suit along with being able to go deep itself.
Imagine how different a lot of existing content would be. And imagine the types of new content that could be created to further make use of it. Because you’re limited to one per guild, you’re not going to have a guild fleet. BUT it would be a great way for guilds to collaborate on big operations. Alliance Fleets anyone? So much cool and useful stuff to spend Influence on. More ways for guilds to show off and also bring something meaningful to the table for the benefit of everyone (except enemies. not such a benefit for them). I think it would breath so much new life into the game and guilds. I’d really like to know what Anet thinks about the concept.
