Here a suggestion I’m just putting out there. Y’all decide if you want the thing, anet to implement, what what: A guild ranking system.
This can either branch out as a thing for the expac, which can be various specific guild activities (kinda like adventures), with individual, guild and rank rewards, possibly with guild vs guild rivalry in some way. (Think Langmar’s estate, but 2 guild vs each other, or cooperating, depending)
Or, this could be setup by the leader/officers of the guild, in which they set lvl xp requirements. This is basically a half-reintroduction of the influence system, but more of as a fun system, not a “We need this for our guild so 100% rep rules” thing, in which ranks in the guild can be set as either “by approval” or “by rank” (even splitting the 2 into two independent rankings), so that “by approval” ranks work exactly as ranks do now, and “by xp” ranks would be by individually earned xp of a member. XP would be earned by completing activities, like influence did, and would ofc include all the new content (raid boss kill could be like, 100 xp per member, bonus 30 xp if everyone was from the guild, or whatever), of which individual types of xp-earning activities can be disabled if the leaders wish (that way a pvp guild can use it as a ranking of how much pvp you do, while repping the guild, and not other content types, same for wvw and raiding guilds.) Furthermore, it may be set so that upon attaining certain ranks or lvl milestone, certain guild permissions unlock, like decorating and such, again, as set by those in charge.
Or ofc both or these are decent ideas for anet, the former being more focused on Guild-based content (It’s called guild wars for a reason no?) to encourage inter-guild interaction, and the latter being more focused on guild members, providing encouragement to players to “get involved gokitten it” (we got this problem in my primary guild, where I get everyone decorator rights, 2 ppl out of 75 use it.) and intra-guild interactions.
This wouldn’t be much maintenance or admin on the guild side, as they leaders simply setup ranks as before, and the methods of earning xp, and the game handles the rest.
Further additions to the 2nd idea would be:
A big red button (reset all xp).
An xp decay system, inactivity means a drop of xp points, again, optional, and optional settings rate of decay, if it’s just xp decay, or xp and rank decay.
A continuous leader-board system. In this setup, only the last “X amount of time”s xp will be considered, so that a continuously rotating leader-board is generated, showing effectively whose most active and whose just never online anymore.
Also, as far as maintenance goes, the former is nothing different from the development of regular new content, and the latter is setup once and leave, and the rest sorts itself out for the most part.
