[Suggestion] Hungry Cats Achievement
I agree with the devs that I don’t want a million cats in my Home Instance. But I think your idea is a good one. You also should be able to change your mind and come back to the cat and take it home.
I also hope that we get more customization for our Home Instance. It would be nice to turn off the cats for a while if you get sick of them. And to add decorations. Of course being able to put your nodes in better locations would be great also.

The OP’s idea makes sense and I agree with Djinn’s embellishment of the idea. Or alternatively, we could have an NPC in the home instance that toggles on|of what we see in our home instance, e.g.
- Hide cats: yes|no
- Hide personal story NPCs: yes|no
- Hide living world NPCs: yes|no
That said, I’d rather that ANet add different achievements to the game. I think this is probably a lot more work than it sounds and I’d prefer to see more new stuff rather than attaching achievements to existing things.
I prefer a game that has a good selection of things that people can do that aren’t tied to tangible rewards or achievements. We don’t need a carrot for everything.

For a completionist like me, the achievements are less of a carrot and more of an easy way to find things I haven’t done / see what I’ve missed. It’s a lot easier to discover new things added to the game when you have an in-game list telling you which ones you have and haven’t found.
While the original idea makes sense, it wouldn’t help all the people who already have the cat, plus you’d be locked into your choice if you made a mistake.

I like this idea better, seems like it would be easier for them to put it all in one place anyways, and it would be something that would be easy to expand on.
Hopefully he or she is someone you can give books to so they can put them in your personal library.
