I was thinking of an idea for guilds to really compete with each other. Maybe this idea has been suggested or hinted towards but I haven’t memorized the forums yet.

Guilds could declare war with other guilds and actually fight their enemies in their their guild halls. Mounting a raid against a guild has the attacking team stage a battle outside of their enemies gates to push into the actual guild hall. A little mapping would be required inorder to prevent people being directly teleported inside of a guild hall.

Guilds who participate in actual war by setting their guild appropriately would be put on a leaderboard with a number of statistics. Successful attacks, defends, Damage done to structures, kills, time spent raiding and losses would be tracked giving rewarded points and removed appropriately.

When a guild has been destroyed or damaged, the affected guild would have a debuff against them reducing their effectiveness in retaliation or staging fights against other guilds until their guild has been repaired. Repairs are made after a war is over and are performed automatically overtime or members can spend resources to increase the speed of their repairs.

Nothing is truly permanent to not devalue the actual gold invested building a guild hall, but visible damage would be seen after a battle is won.

Guilds would compete for ranks. The higher your rank the better the buff your guild members get overall to gold find, magic find and effective stats while mounting raids and defending. The leader board would be reset and honors given out to guilds who rank high each week or two.

Special decorations, guild armours, weapons, and a special emblems next to the guild’s tag over players heads would be awarded. (Like how players have map completion, pvp rank and masteries.)

Lastly, in order to stop guilds from going crazy with attacks non-stop, there would be cool down periods. After staging an attack, you can’t attack another guild for an hour. You also can’t attack the same guild twice in one day. This would be to prevent over zealous guilds who are well equipped and have the manpower from obliterating competition and forces them to be on the defense too from other guilds challenging them for top place.

The number of participants could vary. I would like a cap of 50 players on both sides since the guild hall isn’t THAT big.. like ebg. Who knows what the technical limitations would be for something like that though.

I think this would be more true to actual “Guild Wars”. Not some arena stage where it’s a team fight, but we call it GvG.

I really like the idea. This idea is pretty similar to Guild Battles in Runes of Magic, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The one thing I would change is the “Debuff” concept for guilds that lose a guild battle. I really don’t like the idea of being punished so harshly that it transfers over to other guild battles.

Instead, I think any stored resources (meaning stored in the guild bank) can be available in the guild hall, and when that guild hall is defeated, a small portion of the mats (gold, ore, wood, fibers, raw mats) would be given to the guild that wins.

I also think these “Guild Wars” should be a mutual agreement. If I had a small guild and Guild Hall Invasions happened without a mutual agreement, I would be ticked because I keep getting slammed by guilds that are 50 times the size of mine. When a mutual agreement to stage a “Guild War” is formed, that makes it so guilds with 400 members don’t take advantage of smaller guilds, and both guilds are in it for the resources.

I do like the buffs to magic find, gold find, etc. But how about making it a win-streak reward? Competing for ranks is nice, but there’s not much incentive for the smaller guilds to compete in GvG. As a win-streak reward, the buffs would make the guild leaders think twice about going against a guild, if it meant losing their buffs.

Sorry, my writing is a little scatter-brained, but I think you’ll get most of what I said.

The mutual agreement is more like a duel system imo. What I think I didn’t make clear was that you could participate in the guild wars and then your guild would be open to fight and be attacked. If your guild isn’t ready to fight, then they just don’t switch over.

I thought maybe people could steal resources, but wars would be more for glory and being the best.

That would work very decently but now how the actual WvW works, that would lead wvw being more guild centric. and WvW is ment to get the common player almost as valuable as a guild member.

Tho, a guild centric WvW could lead to a better experience of no guild players, i just dont see that being the vision that Anet has on WvW.

Gw2 is ment to be farmable(in everything) and not competitive, even competitive is farmable in this game.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.

It sounds fun. It also sounds like it’s meant for some other game. Those who love GvG are passionate about it, but look at how many people are having trouble getting into raids because of the difficulty of finding a group of 10. It’s hard to imagine ANet being interested in spending huge amounts of time conceptualizing (never mind creating the mechanics) to make this possible.

It could drive people away from WvW but fighting for your guild only seems more personal to me than fighting for a whole server. Bringing your guild to the top would give it more value than a community of people.
