Guild Wars 2

Something that has been bothering me lately, albeit a minor pet peeve, is the character select screen, and that it will only show a maximum of 7 characters at a time. Currently, there are 8 professions, and in the future, 9, with the addition of the Revenant.

Today I saw a thread on Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3bzjnq/i_need_a_better_character_select_screen/) which ultimately made me realize that I’m not the only one that thinks this is kind of frustrating, and that this deserves a thread on here for discussion.

See, with only 7 characters showing on your screen, and with 8 (9 eventually) professions, you have to scroll to the right to select another character. This can be pretty annoying when you need to switch out professions often (be it for dailies or just in general).

Here is what I suggest…

Increase the amount of characters shown on the character select screen from 7 to 9. This way, it makes room for the 9th profession, the revenant, as well as making sure you can at least have the option to see 1 of each possible profession on the screen, for the ultimate convenience. I made an example below from my limited Photoshop skills.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Some may want to have the option to see ALL characters on the screen (as suggested on the Reddit thread), or even have the ability to lock characters in place so that, even when you play them and go back to the character select screen, that character stays in that exact slot and isn’t placed right at the beginning every time (as it does currently).

I really like this idea and hope they implement it. Seeing all 9 of my characters would b cool and also having my main ones taking the first slots would b cool as well.

I just want the ability to scroll through my characters using the arrow keys – like in gw1 kittenit!

I gave this some more thought yesterday, and I really do believe there should definitely be a lock (and unlock) function for character slots, on the character select screen. That way we could have, say, our 9 different professions locked in place (making it a faster, more convenient way to switch out characters), and any extras (storage mules/alts in general) on the other character select pages.

You can have up to 64 character slots. Nine is cute, but ultimately not that big of an improvement over 7.

That said I support a manual opt-in system to switch to a player-directed sorting order instead of sorting by most recently played. But I don’t prioritize it all that highly over about 300 other QoL suggestions floating around for the game.

I’m also in agreement with the player sorting of characters. I have 44 slots at the moment and It’d definitely be a nice QoL feature.

As it is I usually log in once a day on every character to do some farming. I group them by profession, but manually being able to sort them would be very nice.

That would be awesome too. I’d love to see all my characters on screen. I just did a google search on aion character select and one of these pictures came up. I assume you mean something like this?

I’d support something like this too. As long as we also have the ability to organise and re-arrange our characters on the screen (so we don’t have our most recently played characters always being placed first every time). That would be perfect.

Edit: From memory I think someone did something like this as a concept on the GW2Reddit at some point. Can’t for the life of me remember what the thread was called though. They basically did this but as a GW2 version of seeing all characters on your character select page. I’ll try find it.

I would like the option to make it custom # of character slots shown. For those players who like to have many slots shown, they can increase the number and for those like me who want to reduce it down to 1 toon shown. I would like that option.
