Sitting here looking at the WvW laurel vendor prices for ascended amulets, accessories and rings…
Ascended amulet is 20 laurels. Has the highest stats compared to others and only a slot for 1, but it is the cheapest.
Ascended accessories are 40 laurels each. There are slots for two and have lower stats than amulets, but are twice the cost.
Ascended rings are 25 laurels each…
For a complete set purchased with laurels, it will cost a whopping 150 laurels (180 if you want infusions)… Those numbers ARE excessive considering we are gated to a MAX 55 laurels per month… You are asking players to wait an entire 3 months (and 16 days if you want infusions)… The wait is an entire QUARTER year and season for enough laurels for a complete set… This IS too much waiting and gating and cost, so here are my suggestions…
First suggestion, as I have mentioned before, give us the ability to earn laurels besides the daily waiting and allow us to trade some type(s) of currency for laurels.
If the above suggestion is not a consideration for whatever reason, I would recommend drastically lowering laurel prices for these items to like 7 laurels for each ascended piece (plus wherever currency/material) and 4 laurels each for infusions so a complete set can be had monthly. OR, at very least, 10 laurels each (plus currency/material) for these ascended pieces…
I don’t care how all the “maths” work out really, but I do believe it IS more than reasonable to allow players a set of these ascended items on a monthly basis.
Edit- For the community. I’m not interested in knowing how many laurels you personally have or how long you have played or being told to do fractals or guild stuff… Players should be able to play the content they want and have equal access to these items in various game modes. I’m also sure that prices for these things could be reevaluated across these activities too, but I’m not looking into the vendor prices anywhere else. The points of this thread are laurel prices for ascended and laurel acquisition.

Better suggestion:
Combine ALL stats for trinkets into a single PvP-like amulet and make that the only slot for stats. Then make jewelers able to craft amulets only. Then leave a back slot open for back skins only.
All problems solved. They really should have done it this way from the beginning.
You do know there are other ways to get asc jewelry? If not, do some research before you write a complaining thread.

This.
The laurel price for ascended items is a backup option for people who are unwilling or incapable to get the desired trinket via the intended method. It’s not ment for someone to buy ALL their trinkets via laurels, that is and should be highly inefficient (since laurels require no gameplay at all, only login).

Those are both interesting ideas… Not sure how tough it would be do that, but that could leave slots to be retrofit for things like auras… Crafting would be great too, just not sure if that will come.
In the meantime, I believe the laurel allotment/acquisition and purchasable ascended items prices should be reevaluated.
@Cyninja… There are lots of methods of course, you miss the points…
These items are available in wvw, so are you saying that’s not an “intended method”… Are you going to tell all the players who prefer the competitive aspect of the game that it’s not an “intended method”?
Some players prefer fractals, so great for them… You can’t force them into other game modes if that’s not desired…
Your wordings of “intended method” and “it’s not meant” and “highly inefficient”… do not apply to the spirit of this thread and are just “paper covering holes” commentary.
There is nothing wrong with suggesting to reevaluate these laurel systems…

True, and that is why wvw players get all those ascended trinket items at discounts as far as laurel cost goes compared to normal laurels costs.
Arenanet have state multiple times that they want players to take part in all of the game modes. Only because they implement backup aquisition methods does not mean those have to be jsut as fast as the primary way of aquisition. Here is a train of thought:
- ascended trinkets were not available at all for laurels back when rings got introduced
- how about we revome all ascended trinkets aside from amulets from the laurel merchant? Then there would be no reason to complain about to high laurel costs
There might be nothing wrong against reevaluation of the ascended trinkets aquisitions, but the laurel system is fine as is. There are way to many items available via laurels that would have to be looked at if laurels were made farmable.
The quarter year argument is bs. It takes exactly 30 days to get all the ascended trinkets one needs for a character (that is unless you get some of them via achievements, which is faster). Those 30 days are equivalent to the laurel cost of the amulet. Rings take exactly 2 days per ring. If you want to waste 20 days worth of laurels for that, that is your decision. Accessoires take 2 weeks worth of guild missions per slot, so again 4 weeks.
None of the activities require a huge unjustifiable time comitment from the player. I’d understand people not working on getting their gear if it took hundreds of hours. As is, we are talking not even 4-5 hours per item stretched over an entire month and easily split up into smaller segments most difficult being the guild missions. That is not unreasonable or to much to ask for.
(edited by Cyninja.2954)
Three months for ascended is perfectly reasonable imo. As others have said there are other methods to get pieces cheaper/more efficiently and its also very easy to get exotic pieces while waiting to get the ascended pieces. If all you are doing is WvW then maybe ascended armour should be of more concern to you as you wont (highly unlikely) get all pieces of that drop for you in 3 months of WvW.
The cost for the ascended trinkets are fine where they are at. By purchasing with laurels, you’re getting them at little to no effort as all you have to do is log on. If you want them faster, do fractals and guild missions. All you’ll need to buy with laurels then is the amulet.

Ascended gear is only necessary in Fractals, so if you don’t do Fractals what’s the rush?

Infused ascended rings x2 in 2 weeks? Good luck with that!!!
I’ve been doing them for a 5 weeks solid as a newbie to GW2 and last night I got my first ever infused drop. To infuse them in the forge takes Vials/Globs and Shards of Mists Essence and I’ve only ever had 11 Vials.
I know for the 2 Accessories it’s 2 weeks in Guild Missions – no other way afaik.

This. But I still like my suggestion because it’s elegant and convenient…for both players and programmers. OP responded and made a good point that converting the trinket system to amulet-only would open slots for things like auras…and I’d also like to throw in a slot for the halo, and while we’re at it, how about using one of the defunct slots for tonic.

Complete enough dailies worth to get 10 (20) pristine relics. Without 51-100 daily that’s 5 days.
Now farm fractal level 52 (Grawl) begining part (no agony restaince required) for Shards of Mists (about 1-3 hours to have enough Shards for both rings depending on your luck).
Deconstruct shards into globs and globs into vials until you have the required amount of all.
Infuse rings at the mistc forge.
Your right, it takes even less than 2 weeks. I guess Khisanth wanted to give some leeway.

While your idea is interesting. It takes away a LOT of customisation possibilities on trinkets. It would also require a complete revamp of agony resistance, upgrades for exotic items and infusions in general.
Most of the customisation would be forced onto armor and weapons which are very expensive for ascended gear. Not sure a lot of people would enjoy that.

You don’t need infused rings unless you plan on doing fractals on a regular basis. You should get pristine relics from doing the daily achievements which will let you purchase the rings with the exact stat combo that you want. Considering that you have been doing them for five weeks, you should have more than enough to buy the rings.

That’s great! So Anet shouldn’t have an issue with my suggestion of being able to purchase a full set with laurels in pve and wvw over the course of a full month.
Thanks for that perspective, makes my suggestion even more valid!

Except there’s a pretty big difference between buying with laurels and getting them from fractals/guild missions.
What they can do, with the upcoming WvW revamp, is to add a reward system that allows players to earn ascended armor by playing WvW.

Yes there is! Two weeks if you like fractals and guild missions. One month if you don’t. Perfect!!!
Laurels take no effort to gain beyond logging in the game. It being time gated is an inherent part of its design.
Making them cheaper is only going to trivialize other methods of acquisition. Instead of reducing laurel costs, there should be more ways of attaining amulets and earrings that aren’t story achievement or guild mission grinds. Personally, I think earrings are pretty badly designed— either join a guild or pay a rather expensive premium. It seems like they were just there to promote guild missions and nothing else. Boring really.
I think 500 Jeweler would be a good place for this. Currently jeweler can only craft exotic jewelry— a bit pointless if you ask me. Why is jeweler the only profession that can not craft the best versions of stuff? Alternatively, there should be a way to change jewlery stats in the mystic forge as opposed to selling it for 2 silver. Either way will allow players a way to bypass timegates and/or less interesting content without actually handing stuff to people.

You’re looking at time rather than effort. It takes little effort to get laurels as all that you have to do is simply log in. You don’t even have to play the game. Fractals and guild missions require you to actually do something.
I honestly think the pricing at the vendors is okay. They’re the best jewellery pieces in the game, so three months to acquire a full set if you take that route (which is the easiest; you just have to log in to acquire the laurels) isn’t so bad in my opinion.

Yes, I looked at time. I also mentioned fractals and guild missions as well in the op. I also offered suggestions to supplement laurels through currency purchases or changing some numbers.
No effort, little effort, average effort, a lot of effort… That doesn’t matter… I’m talking about how we are given laurels with regard to ascended items.
Sorry, ascended is common now. It’s easy to obtain armor and weapons… I can buy all necessary mats to craft what I need and am only limited by gold (with the except for initial laurel recipes)… There is a disparity with “earning” or purchasing ascended trinkets compared to other ascended gear…
Not everyone wants to run guild missions or do fractals… Does the game preference argument have to be brought up again?
It would take a brand new account 1 month to gain access and craft a full set of ascended armor and weapons, limited by initial ascended recipes for laurels. That’s a disparity when you compare…
So there needs to be a “big deal” with options or changing the timeframe to be more realistic? No, not when I can fire up my credit card and buy everything else, and even stuff like first gen legendary weapons…
The laurel “hand outs” are like a patent handing out a piece of candy to their kid for doing daily chores… It’s silly, especially when you look at all other factors… Even more silly as a customer…

Effort does matter when it comes to how quickly someone should be able to get ascended. You already see this in the game. From crafting to fractals to raids and to random drops in open world. You’re still fixated on time and that because so and so method of acquisition is unfair than this method even though it requires more effort than the other.

Do you really want to debate “effort”?
When Anet stops allowing ascended crafting materials to be sold on the bltc, and that I can buy with my credit card, then we can say “effort matters”…

Yeah random drops are random. Just like soggy cookies are soggy.
I don’t really care to debate “effort” but it is pretty obvious that there’s a difference in the effort that someone puts in by simply logging on each day compared to one who does fractals and/or guild missions.
It takes more effort to earn the gold and materials to make ascended materials for armor/weapons. Yes, you can buy the gold but that doesn’t represent the player population.
I just wish the ascended accessory was cheaper then what it is now. I mean 40 Laurels and 50 Ectoplasm is much pricier then the 20/25 Laurels and 250 Badges of Honor that you pay for an amulet/ring. If anything, I wish they gave an option like 35 Laurels+250 Badges of Honor for an accessory or remove the 50 ectoplasms from the non-WvW price.

There’s no point to this thread. It isn’t going to happen there’s no use debating about it. I do agree that the OP’s logic is a bit off in the thread in general but he apparently thinks differently than most people because this isn’t the first thread he has made that is like this. But yeah kinda pointless to argue over something that common sense says won’t happen anyway.
I’m not against them adding other methods to acquire ascended trinkets such as a new reward system in WvW or crafting.
Guild missions for earrings. Fractals for rings. WVW luarel merchant for neck piece.
You’re welcome.
Well the obvious answer would be Jeweler 500, anyone know why this isn’t a thing?

It will require 14 deldrimor ingots per ring/accessory. :P
Well the obvious answer would be Jeweler 500, anyone know why this isn’t a thing?
There’s never been a good answer why Jeweler & Chef don’t go up to 500 yet. Partly, there are already robust acquisition methods for ascended jewelry and ANet would have to figure out how to integrate it. But there are other avenues to explore, e.g. making ascended jewelry be more about effects|auras (like poly-lumi jewels or winter’s presence frostiness).
However, that’s got nothing to do with the OP’s suggestion or critique.
I dont agree with this thing.
What you are suggesting it basically “give me best gear in 2 weeks so I can get bored after 3 months of doing same thing all over again”.
Play the game and you will get it. Why rushing stuff…?

I’m a veteran. I played the game. I’m not going to be forced to do things I do not find fun. Been there are done that already. I can fire up my credit card to bypass lots of stuff and it’s a silly design to gate ascended trinkets…
A brand new account can craft their way to 80 in an hour and have full ascended (with the exception of trinkets through laurels) in a couple months… Well, just do boring as hell guild stuff and fractals… No, maybe players want to do wvw or open world or dungeons or whatever…
Anyone can buy most ascended mats off the bltc…
Anyone can buy legendary weapons off the bltc…
Anyone can buy tons of skins off the bltc…
As a veteran, I can level up any profession to 80 in 5 minutes with tomes and craft a brand new set of ascended armor and weapons and back piece whenever I want, but ascended trinkets are time and laurel gated…
Not a child here, and the way laurels are given out is treating players like children when you look at all other factors.
Boredom sets in because of boring or unbalanced or neglected or underdeveloped game modes and the subpar profession designs… Not because of anything gear related… If anything, having the gear encourages to play what you like more and encourages build diversity and experimentation…
Y’all gotta think out of the box…
Edit- is it really a big issue and does it ruin your gameplay if laurels were increases or costs were lowered or we could buy extra laurels with different currencies?
That answer is no.
So far we can’t craft this stuff either, so that is an issue in the equation too.
It’s an overall poor system for ascended trinkets, and it needs to be addressed somehow.
