[Suggestion] Let US allocate the extra stats
Yeah, because that’s not going to get unbalanced.
RIP City of Heroes
Yeah, because that’s not going to get unbalanced.
Self-allocation could be accomplished without allowing someone to stack all the points into one stat. Provide the points pool. Provide an interface with the stats shown. Allow someone to slot up to 300 points max in one stat, the same way the trait lines allowed for. They could even cap the 4 primary stats at 226 instead of 300, since 74 is being added to their base amount.

Pretty sure it is Anet’s job to balance it…
They DID. By not letting players allocate it .
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Amusing.
Maybe in the next expansion they will ‘balance’ the game further by removing stats, and just have us select power, condition or tank.

Look! There’s my point going right over your head.

See, Nike got it.

next meta : zerker armor + celestial trinkets…..
Archeage = Farmville with PK
I dont want power creep
Just the WvW

Your point is always ‘Anet is right and this is too hard’. It is getting stale.
A new way of stat customisation would be nice. Especially in PvP and WvW.
This isn’t broken or silly at all. /sarcasm
The power creep is already coming with specilizations with a lot of the really good and useful traits being put in proper spots and complete reworks of useless lines. This would make PvP properly broken.
PvE it just adds even more damage to what we can pump out now so proper parties will have even more trivialized content.
WvW don’t even mention how many already broken roaming builds get stronger.
If they did allow stat allocation obviously it’d need a cap you could put on each stat, but I don’t see why they would do it to begin with.
Best NA rallybot on EU

How would it add even more damage to PvE, compared to Anet’s method of buffing gear? His method of diminishing returns on stats would most likely come out to less damage than Anet’s…
PvP and WvW would also have some interesting customisation, as long as Anet actually balances it more than once every 2 years.
As the OP said, players were allowed to allocate points to stats in GW1. There was a system in place to keep the stat allocation reasonable and fair. It is certainly possible for Anet to implement this in GW2. I don’t know why they failed to do it this way originally. Tying traits and stat point together always seemed like a poor system, IMO. It gives less build flexibility. I’m glad they’re at least partly correcting it.
re: His method of diminishing returns on stats would most likely come out to less damage than Anet’s… – This was actually Anet’s method in GW1. Once again, the OP is just asking for something similar to the stat allocation system Anet gave us in GW1.
re: If they did allow stat allocation obviously it’d need a cap you could put on each stat, but I don’t see why they would do it to begin with. – Because that’s how RPG’s(in the 70’s) and Computer RPG’s(in the 80’s) originally did it. Note that there are always rules to keep players from abusing stat point allocation.(Unless the game is poorly thought out and not well tested.) RPG’s have always been about customizing your character. Why would you not allow players in an RPG to allocate their stats?(within reasonable limits)

In GW1 our Attribute Points which we put into various things like Fire magic, Air Magic, Longbow, Shortbow, Sword mastery are the equivalent to the trait tree, even without the +300 stats added to the trait tree its the equivalent of our GW2 trait tree. You didnt get to assign “Stat Points” you got to assign “Attribute Points”, or under a different name “Trait Points”.
They didnt increase your characters health or anything like that, they did allow you to use weapons properly and do the right amount of damage with them. If you didnt have 9 in swordsmanship, you couldnt use a sword that required 9 in swordsmanship properly. They also made your skills more effective the higher number put into them. But no in GW1 you could not edit your characters stat points.
All characters of the same class(say two warriors) without any armor or weapon modifications running the same skill bar would do the same damage and have the same HP and Armor as the other. In GW1 at least.
I do however agree with the OPS idea, i would love to be able to put those stat points into whatever i wanted, instead of adding it to armor.
Swap a pair of say berserker boots, to soldier boots, there you allocated your own stats
+1 to allocating stats where the player chooses. I wouldn’t even have a problem with keeping the same system already used for trait lines, just separating the traits from the stat system entirely. Point caps are already there, stat clusters already there, boon duration and profession skill recharge already there for those concerned, and people who feel they would need to change their equipment because of the stat changes have less reason for concern.

That sounds good to me. However, I’m also thinking that a possible reason for adding the stats to armor is that legendary armor would actually make some sense from a stat swapping standpoint.
If we still had the option of adding things like 300 power, 300 precision, 300 ferocity as easily as we can change trait lines now, then I don’t see where legendary armor stat swapping would be worth much. Keep in mind that an ascended set currently gives stats of: primary 329, secondary 235. Example 329 power, 235 precision, 235 ferocity.
So, one can adjust their stats more now (in raw numbers) by trait lines than one can by swapping to a different set of armor if you leave runes out of the picture.
I got the ascended armor stats from the wiki, I hope they’re correct

Customization leads to Imbalance
Imbalance leads to Over Powered
Over Powered leads to Angry Gamers
Angry Gamers is the path to the Nerf Side
Resist the Nerf Side.

This!
GW1 didn’t had attributes on the gear (except a attribute requirement on weapons). Why is this switched?? cause it is a totally different game. The fact that people are not mix ’n matching to get cumulative stats that are different then mainstream is cause people will go for the zerker gear. Why would we need to make the dps trend even stronger??
As long as people are not mix ’n matching there is definitly no need for this.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

No offense, but I find the idea of Legendary Armor repulsive, mainly because I can only imagine the grind…
