I would like to premise by saying that I am a new player who has recently reached 80. The following is my experience as such. If I am missing something because of my own ignorance, please let me know!
Everyone’s goals are different in this game. Personally, map completion was my number one goal when I hit 80. I was excited to end my personal story so that my objective map (top right GPS thing. Sorry I’m not clear on the name) would go back to showing me the general directions to my goals in an area. So you can imagine how surprised I was when I finished my Personal Story only to have it start me on the Living Story 4.
There is a button in the panel to “Quit This Episode.” Great. Problem solved. I can quit it and come back to it later. Nope. Once you click this button, that compass map still shows the Living Story objective.
So I figure, fine. I’ll just do the Story and be done with it. Well, as a new player who did not play the previous episodes, I was shocked when I entered Dry Top. I had no idea what was going on. There didn’t seem to be any tutorial. I found myself taking quite a while to figure out the crystals. Then once I got the hang of that, I found myself getting completely lost and unable to find my quest objective.
So a guildmate suggested I buy the previous episodes. That especially Episode 1 would give me an introduction to Dry Top. Fine, I did. Now I’m left having to do 1 and 4 at least, and out of OCD, I’ll probably do 2 and 3.
What this means, is that I’ve now pushed map completion off for who knows how long. I’m sure many of you will say I can still do it without the compass. But isn’t the compass designed to make it easier? I know it really helped me from 1-80.
TL;DR: My suggestion is this: Please allow an option to pause the Living Story quest so that the compass will go back to normal.
As an aside, I would also point out that throwing new players in episode 4, with no tutorial for the new area was very confusing for me. I don’t really have a suggestion for this. Perhaps an introductory quest line so that we can better understand the area?
I know this was long, but I just wanted to give a clear idea of what I have faced at 80, and what I would have wished had happened.
If there is already a way to turn off Living Story, excuse this post and please let me know. It would be much appreciated.
