I just read the oversensitive thread about the airplane joke and never like before i wanted a “-1” button for it.

If we can like a topic with +1, wouldn’t be be fair to have opposite option and dislike it with minus one?

indeed, we need a downvoting system so we can let trolls know how we feel about their useless posts.

Voting on forums tends to just create echo-chambers, honestly. Probably not the best thing here if they’re looking for feedback. Just look at sites like Reddit where posts that disagree with the hivemind tend to get buried, regardless of the quality of the post.

I’ve thought we should have this fairly often (especially today) but then there’s the danger of it being abused just because of heated disagreements. It would cheapen the function. And there are a few posters that attract controversy even if they come on to say Hello. People would down vote them without paying attention to what they have to say.

I honestly don’t even like the “+1” option we have. Adding a “-1” option would be a silly idea. Using reddit as an example here: people will downvote posts for any number of reasons, many of which don’t relate to the validity of what’s being said. Upvoting/downvoting is just based on knee jerk reactions and not necessary at all.

I always liked the up and down voting system from the wow forums because it gave you a good insight on how the forum community felt about said persons idea or suggestion.

It wasnt always negative, posts that saw alot of upvotes also attractred developer attention.

I don’t like this facebook system of “you can like it, or you can shut it”.

By that logic some really bad ideas might get support from small minority, while majority’s uproar might be ignored because dev checks the number of likes for the first post, rather then waste hours if not days for reading through the whole thing.

This could work for a New Ideas forum. But for this one is good as it is now.
