One of the biggest tenants of GW2 has always been that you should never hate seeing another player in the open world. However with the way that mobs react to aggro I constantly find myself being discouraged in certain situations. I don’t think that anyone here has not experienced having someone drag a mob to you at a gathering node just to leave it there to now attack you. Now I understand where there is a bit of realism here, but I think it causes far more problems than benefits it provides in immersion. You either have to take the time to kill a creature you were careful to avoid or be put in combat which slows you down as well. All of which happens to no fault of your own.
My suggestion would be to have mobs reset to their original position after the original person who drew aggro would be out of range without drawing additional targets on the way back.
I’m not a programmer so I don’t know how hard this is to accomplish and to what depths of resources it would require. I just wanted to suggest it and hope others feel the same way.

What I don’t like is that they usually drag the mob to you, gather from the node and then run off.

Don’t stand around by nodes? Stand off to one side or afk in PvP/WvW/home instance?

If you’re gathering then by the time they get there you should be finished, and you can leave.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

What you say would be correct, if I was just standing at the node or was AFK. You appear to forget that some nodes take longer to gather (rich ore for example) then other nodes. If somebody drags a mob to you, they should not just run off and leave you to fight it alone.

That’s two different situations though. Are they dragging the mobs to a site they want to harvest or are they dragging the mobs to you to annoy you. If they drag the mobs to a rich node then stop to harvest they have the same problems as you do, the mob attacking them while they harvest. If they are dragging the mob to you to annoy you but not harvest, then that falls under griefing and you can report them for it.

Hmm, well I haven’t had such issue with other players aggroing mobs to me, atleast in vanilla PvE maps, where simply having full berserker gear and DPS build is enough to fight off mobs in a single stand off, very literally.

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Yah. I personally haven’t noticed this as a problem. A small annoyance sometimes, but even my level 80 light armor chars can ignore most mobs while harvesting, in core Tyria. Perhaps the OP doesn’t have level 80s or is talking about HoT maps.

I have 12 level 80’s. I’m not worried about getting killed or anything. It’s just really annoying and makes me feel less than joyous seeing other players when I’m harvesting. Before megaservers I would just guest to the lowest pop servers to lower the chances of running into people who would aggro on me. I tend to gather a lot.

Exactly, and this is counter to the idea of wanting to see people in game.

Exactly this, i got my Dawn from a lv60 shark while gathering from a underwater platium node in timberline. It is no big deal take times killing these unexpected mobs really.

A thread for something that’s fixed by taking 5 seconds to kill the.mob. Your right. ANet needs to spend time to fix something that is not broken. Really OP, it’s not a big deal, or you could just run off. Worst QQ thread ever.

This is the worst mob training game since EQ.

And people are right, it is not Anets problem. It is a people problem. They simply do not care how much aggro they drag, where they drag it, and consider it to be your problem when they dump it on you.

Then Blame you for being annoyed.

Harvesting is bad enough, but then we have those who think dragging several Champions into the middle field during Claw of Jormag is “someone else’s” problem. Or running in to a champ troll fight dragging more troll and elemental adds onto the backline.

It is simply poor gamesmanship and they don’t care.

Sure. It only takes “5 seconds” to kill a single mob trained on you. 5 seconds the person dragging it could also take to kill it.

Odds are as well that during the time you take to kill a mob trained to you on a node, other people will drag more to you. And blithely run off. “Your problem now, herpa kitten ”

The best is when there is a clear non aggro path, and Joe “I don’t give a kitten” will run through 6 Grawl trappers and worms to bestow them upon you because he can’t be bothered to avoid aggroing things he has no intention of fighting. It is rude.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

The way I see this ‘problem’ is – it’s only really a problem to people who are in the maps to gather from nodes. Which, as someone who does sometimes go out to farm nodes himself, I think is an acceptable risk.

An alternative is to have no mobs near nodes, which bots would have a field day with.

The point is that you shouldn’t have to clean up after someone else’s laziness. Seriously, if you don’t have anything positive to add or it doesn’t bother you why waste everyone’s time posting? There’s not a bit of QQing here other than your post which adds nothing to the conversation.

Absolutely right, it is a people problem. It’s just that there is really nothing we can do about people being inconsiderate or rude (Just look at some of the responses). However Anet could help solve the problem since they control the actual world it’s happening in.

Since when do precursors drop from sub 80 mobs? Even if it’s not a big deal to you, having the problem fixed for those who are bothered by it will not impact you negatively in the least.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only game I’ve had a mob “scraped off” on me. I definitely understand why you don’t like this—I don’t like it either.

However, I’m not so sure it would be fixable. Or if it is, if it would be worth the time and effort to do so. I’m not sure what else to say about it.

Since when did they drop from sub 80 mobs? Apparently since always, although it’s probably more common from higher level mobs.

Precursor Weapons
Precursor weapons can be obtained from almost any item source. This includes loot, chests, containers, reward chests, etc. that can be characterized by the possibility of receiving a weapon. The possibility of receiving a precursor weapon is not dependent on level or area, as players have reported receiving precursors on low-level characters in low-level areas as well as high-level character in high-level areas. To note, only high level players (62 – 80) can receive exotic quality weapons and may be more likely to receive precursor weapons from loot as loot often scales with level.

ANet may give it to you.
