Suggestion: Mythic Rarity Equipment
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
If crafting ‘mythic’ is roughly the same as for ascended, then doesn’t that mean it would have similar costs? For that cost, we can already stat-swap ascended weapons and armor (save for the fact that ANet hasn’t made it easy to recover runes/sigils).

Honestly, on that I’m not sure. The process to craft it should be similar, but maybe the parts are cheaper to make? It shouldn’t be too cheap, but as you said past a point you might as well go with Ascended anyway. I’m not too sure on where that point is. I guess the value of being able to change stats for free whenever you’re out of combat (and not lose whatever you have slotted) will differ from person to person.

So why would gear that’s better than Ascended be cheaper than Ascended? And for armor, isn’t that equivalent to Legendary? Other than appearances, of course.

But it wouldn’t be better than Ascended. It would have Exotic stats, but be more flexible because you can change the stats around whenever you’re out of combat.
Legendary armor will (should) have Ascended stats as well as the stat swapping ability. So, again, Mythic would be weaker.

I still don’t understand how this makes the game better for most of us: swapping gear is already relatively cheap:
- Exotic gear: an exotic inscription/insignia plus a few T6 mats.
- Ascended: the same exotic inscription/exotic plus 5 ecto
Wouldn’t it be better for ANet to spend the time on build templates to make it more convenient rather than inventing and balancing a new tier?
What I really want:
I have a piece of equipment, or a weapon. I have “unlocked” specific runes, sigils, jewels, and infusions. I want drop downs on that piece of gear that allows me to choose what I wish it to be based upon those upgrades I have unlocked.
Perhaps that is limited to exotic and higher gear. Perhaps the market for the expensive upgrades will crash.
But lugging around different sets of armor or, worse, not trying out different sets of armor due to cost, availability (celestial for example), and then having to carry all the alternate sets around is not fun. And I want the game to be fun.

The improvement would be that you don’t need to pay those “cheap” costs, it’s already paid for. Nor would you need to go to the Mystic Forge to do it, just get out of combat for a moment and you can adjust as needed. Nor would you need new inscriptions.
As for inventing and balancing a new tier? Well, the balancing part is already done. It’s the same stats as Exotic. The inventing part would be the stat swapping, I guess? But that too is already in the game, for Legendary gear. It’s in for weapons, and if it’s not in for armor and trinkets, it will still need to be developed for them anyway as they’re introducing Legendary armor (and I’m sure the trinkets are right behind).
If the idea doesn’t fly, it doesn’t fly. I can live with that. This is just an attempt to take things we already have and mix them up to make a possibly better option for some people. Do we need it? Nah.

And those costs are there for a reason.
There’s no reason to introduce armor or weapons with what you’re describing. It doesn’t solve a problem better than other suggestions given. Build templates solve it better because you could have ascended or legendary items in the build template with sigil and rune changes. Usable at any level gear, while staying within the stats provided at that level (so no putting exotic level stats on a level 1 staff).
I’d rather more armor skins that types. Different teams, I know, but still.

I doubt this will be implemented because free stat changing is one of the bigger things leg armor has going for it. Its the same stats as ascended, yet much harder and more expensive to obtain (not to mention takes far longer), so the only 2 things that it has going for it is the looks and the free stat swaps.
Do we need it? Nah.
I’d rather they spent their limited resources on things we do need or that would offer us a level of convenience that would be game changing.
Most people don’t stat swap at all. Most of those who do, do so rarely. So this is a lot of work for something that would be merely convenient for a minority.
I like the idea of making stat swapping more convenient, so I agree with the implied problem that the OP wants to address. I don’t agree that this addresses it sufficiently to be worth ANet’s time.
mythic’ is the same as for ascended in my book and with that being said mythic is not
need at all in this game . that would be a waste of makers time and energy that could be
better used to do things like up the game to DX11 and put out game fixes on game
bugs . and put out new content as well
I’d rather they give us the ability to swap stats on runes and sigils (ascended runes/sigils?) over a new tier of gear that is the same as exotic but with build-in stat swap.

I made a thread a while ago with the same suggesttion. Would de nice to stat select your asceded armor and weapons. If they did it they should make a maximum number of stats that you can infuse in it. If thats with exmaple ascended inscriptions or insignia’s or with real armor pieces example a sinister and a berserker stat gloves trown in the forge to combine them. Same goes with upgrades the amount of uprades per slot is the same as the max allowed stats on the armor.
Edit: With the current state of the game and how easy it is to get ascended armor, the upgrade should be an ascended Insignia or Inscription. And the next suggestion is a personal one gate it behind content. My example a one man instance/story to find a a person and/or a forge to make it. And when you make it trow in the armor piece or weapon plus the ascended upgarde plus a content related item for it.
