Those of us who have participated in beta testing have made up to four characters. Some of us may have grown attached to the names of those characters and wish to rename one or more of their less interesting characters after the beta character. This wouldn’t seem like a big deal, but name change contacts are very expensive for what they do. I suggest, that as a reward for testing the beta characters and creating valuable feedback, we receive a “Name Claim Contract” for the name of any beta character we have spent over an hour on. This “Name Claim Contract” would rename one of our existing characters to the name of a character we used in the beta. This would be a unique reward for those of us who preordered the game and created data for feedback by giving us a good opportunity to get a nice discount on the very expensive Name Change Contracts, while giving us an additional motive to test a variety of characters.

Obviously, I’m asking this because I really like the name of one of my beta characters, and I want to replace the name of my character the beta character was mirroring with the beta character’s name, but spending ten dollars to keep a name I’ve used in game for several days is more than I’d like to spend. If you do not like this, at least consider a sale on Name Change Contracts at the end of the betas.

But… but… I’ve been using my beta chars for joke names that I’d never even consider using on “real” characters.

Like, my Reaper’s name is “Icanhazsoulburger”. And my Revenant is “Iseedeadlegends” (was going to be dead people, but someone already had that :p).

So since you’re asking for this for a selfish reason of wanting to use the name, I’m going to deny it for the selfish reason that I don’t want to use my names.

Sale on name change contracts would be cool, though.

I wouldn’t bother asking if I didn’t think others may have similar feelings. I’m admitting that I would use it because I want to use it, but that is a way of saying there is at least one person who would appreciate this reward.

Buy a character slot and create a temp alt with the name you want and delete and remake him on launch.

The OP wants to rename an old char cheaply, not make a new one with that name. I can see why they want it. So far they haven’t made a case for why ANet should make a cheaper version of a name change contract.

Perhaps ANet will put the name change contract on sale, as requested.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I don’t want to rename anyone I have but I’d love to be able to claim my Norn Reaper’s name for when I remake her. It’s not a big deal, though, as I won’t delete her until ANet does it for me and then I’ll have 24 hours to make her with that name. Ditto with my Charr Revenant, I like his looks enough I could be persuaded to make him again even though I prefer playing sylvari and humans and my chief RP idea for a Rev involves a sylvari.

On the other hand I think my Asura Berserker’s name turned out really nicely but as I’m not likely to make a live Asura warrior I’d want to claim the name for eventual use without using a character slot for it …. same with my sylvari DH, I like the name I gave her as just in general good for a sylvari. But them’s the breaks for coming up with good names for throwaway alts, I guess!

There is no connection at all between beta char names and your old char names!
For your idea to change the name of one of your old char:
This item already exists! It’s available for like nothing in the gemshop! Just spend some $ or € on it and you can change your name instantly! You win, Anet wins, everyone wins!!

Btw.: some mod should delete this thread, because it obviously is already an available cheap item and no “suggestiin)”.

Considering that $10 is the price of a whole new character slot, with all the uses and benefits that entails, $10 to simply rename an existing character is beyond unreasonable. Renames should be absolutely no more than half the cost of a slot.
