Where direct damage builds tend to rely on three stats (Power, Precision, Ferocity), for applying conditions the only really important gear stat is Condition Damage.

What I’d like to suggest is that when you score a critical with some condition-centered skills, you inflict an additional condition: Trauma.

Trauma won’t actually do more damage or hinder you in any direct way. Rather, if someone wants to use a skill to cleanse a damaging condition such as burning or bleeding, it will instead clear Trauma first. This means that a critical hit with a Trauma-inducing skill won’t do more damage, but it’s harder to get rid of the effects quickly. This would give condition heavy builds a reason to focus on the Precision stat as well as Condition Damage.

Yes, any skills that can inflict Trauma would need to be adjusted to be a little less powerful, but I think that’s possibly a good thing. Trauma would be a way to make a skill more deadly without upping the numerical damage it does. It would be an extra balance option for the devs to use, and it might give people reasons to consider changing their builds to either inflict it or survive it.

Of course, I realize there may be problems with this idea, so fire away at it if you see any.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

I like the basic idea of making another base stat play a part in condition builds.
And the suggestion of a remove-first blocker like condition is interesting. In GW1-PvP it was very common to intentionally put useless conditions on top of the important ones to prevent the target from getting rid of the big one quick.

I believe putting something like that in would be very complicated and probably take alot of time, but may be and interesting addition to the game’s condition based combat mechanics.
Most likely with the xpac coming up, there won’t be resources available in the foreseeable future to work on such a basic change.
