Does anyone remember playing the predator in the AVP games? Remember how it had that helmet with different vision modes, some better at seeing the aliens, some better for marines? I was remembering this, and other games that involved vision modes, and came up with these funny concepts.
(No, I don’t expect it to be put in. Keep your pants on. I know you think there are more important things and there are. I present this for your, and my, amusement. Intended for open world. Not pvp.)

So imagine a mastery with lines that give you various powers, none of them game-breaking but each delivering some advantage (and disadvantage):

  • Your standard heat vision – warm blooded creatures light up, cold blooded (or undead) darkened.
  • Life signs vision – a variation on heat vision. All living things light up, undead things don’t. Neither do golems, elementals or other things that aren’t technically alive.
  • Magic vision – magical creatures and sources light up, all else darkened.
  • The obligatory X-ray vision – being able to see the outlines of creatures through solid structures.
  • Energy vision – the sciencey version of magic vision. Asura and charr technologies light up, all else darkens.
  • Mushroom vision – you’ve been in the jungle too long, you’ve eaten something you shouldn’t have, now you’re everything in psychedelic colors.
  • Motion vision – things that are moving light up, making them easier to spot.
  • Danger sense – rather than just having different colored name tags, dangerous creatures now glow with an yellow aura, which turns orange if they’re aggro-ed, and red if they’re aggro-ed at you.
  • Node vision – highlights trees/ores/plants in your view.
  • Map vision – highlights poi/vistas/hps in your view.

it’d be cool if the magic vision had temporary magical trails where you could see a little retelling of a recent magical battle via the projectile trails. ‘3’

How about…

In new maps where you learn the mastery line, nights are really dark until you get the mastery line. After that mobs start showing up in the infrared. Further mastery progression gives you the ability to see plants at night as a light green glow and harvestable nodes as brighter green for plants and dull red for metals. Maybe the next mastery line progression shows you mobs that have the ability to become invisible day or night.

Maybe the vendors can sell torches you can carry to light the area around you at night. Torches that you can drop when you need to fight and pick up again.

Further mastery progression gives you the ability to see plants at night as a light green glow and harvestable nodes as brighter green for plants and dull red for metals. Maybe the next mastery line progression shows you mobs that have the ability to become invisible day or night.

Maybe the vendors can sell torches you can carry to light the area around you at night. Torches that you can drop when you need to fight and pick up again.

Please no. Some mastery have to grind to see what could see before this idea? No thank you.

If the next expansion takes us underground into Primordius territory it would make sense to have some areas of darkness and while these could be perfectly navigateable with torches or what not, a mastery as suggested by Just a Flesh Wound would be very cool. Perhaps you could also buy or craft floating light orbs that follow you if you don’t want to get the vision mastery.

To both you and the OP – This is a freaking AWESOME idea and you both deserve a cheer.

I would love to see this idea developed. We can go underground for this and the BEST part would be that we could bring back the Dwarves and relate the mastery to what they have been learning since we last saw them.
