The Norn trident skin is beautiful and it is a real shame that it is “wasted” on only being available for content that a vast majority of the playerbase would rather avoid and refuse to acknowledge.
It would make an excellent staff skin as well and it’s a really simple concept as well. Perhaps not as easy an implementation, I wouldn’t know. Either way, could it please be made into a staff skin, perhaps with other underwater-only skins?

Here is an attached image of the Norn trident skin for those who haven’t seen it.

Hey there. Thanks for sharing the idea. I agree, it’s a beautiful weapon and it’s great you shared your thoughts.

I did a tiny edit to the subject line to ensure it catches the eye of a dev looking for suggestions. Hope that’s ok with you.

Oh, I thought this was about using a Norn as a trident. I could just see a trident skin with a Norn holding his hands up in trident position, blurble-drowning a phrase about hunting or drinking to each of my underwater skills.
Got my hopes up. =P

Many alts; handle it!

there really are some nice trident skins and its too bad we dont see them often. I was looking for a skin for my guardian. As I was browsing different sets on the wiki quite a few times I had to say “O that woul look good, toobad its a trident…”

I first stumbled onto this thing when it was a Personal Story reward (Hunting Trident, or something like that) and thought it was something unique. I held on to it even though I had long ago found something more powerful. It seriously does not fit with the Norn weapon theme.

There are a lot of underwater skins that didn’t get translated into actual weapons after the release of the Wardrobe. If you’re going to make this trident into a staff, please ensure that all of these skins find a means of acquisition!

Oh, I thought this was about using a Norn as a trident.

That would be silly. We know that Norns use bears as underwater harpoon guns.

(And yes, please turn some of the tridents into staff skins!)

I’m against this.
Instead of turning things, that are definetely no Staffs into Staffs, like Tridents.
Anet should use their time and ressources to add some new staff skins.

They should focus on implementing some new Legendary Weapon Skins finally.
From that would everyone have something, if ANet would give us the long overdue more Legendary Weapon Skins.

Its also no shame that the skin(s) is (are) used as clear Trident Skin(s).
Its a shame instead, that Anet totally seems to have abandoned their whole gameplay content that is based on the Underwater Gameplay to the point, that players feel its a shame that such a skin is used for Weapon Type X over Y, due to Weapon X being mostly a pointless weapon in the whole game with a total unbalanced combat system, that hasn’t been touch for a freaking single time within 2 years , that doesn’t even provide its own unique seperate traits, which lets all classes lose like 30-50% of their build diversity, due to alot of skills haven’t been thought out well enough, so that they don’t work under water and have no creative workarounds, like the simple but very creative workaround of turning Tornado into Maelstrom.

There are more important things to do, than to recycle skins from one weapon type to an other weapon type.

After knowing and havign played GW2, anybody should instatly see, why mostly everybody avoids the underwater combat.

But I guess, thats all working as intended.
The point is only.. somewheen will time catch up with Anets decision to completely abandon basically the underwater mechanics from the game by removing everythign related of it, that had to to with combat, except for the parts of WvW, where nobody with a brain goes in at free will to fight there, when battles on land are much better balanced, more fast paced and don’t remove like 50% of your build diversity once you touch the water and removing also your build up stacks of sigil buffs, if you don’t use the same sigil also in your underwater weapon.

Once we finally will get to the Deep Sea Dragon, I guess, Anet has planned up to give this content finally its big redesign and rebalancing, that the whole underwater content deserves and needs, because I guess, only then all the spent time, effort and ressources for that will it be worth it then only, so that anet postponed all kinds of improvements and changes to the underwater content, for when the deep sea dragon plays finally a bigger role in the game – whenever this might perhaps ever be..if at all ….

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

We need more distinction between staffs and tridents, not less!

Tridents have the fewest skins of any weapon type (followed closely by the other underwater weapons), and too many tridents are just lazy copy-and-paste jobs of the same set’s staff (see also: most dungeon weapons, vanguard and lionguard even though they have unique trident skins that are ingame but unavailable, most cultural sets, corrupted, primordus, a few others).

Trident → Staff
Harpoon Gun → Rifle
Spear → Polearm(?)

If you start doing this you might as well merge staffs with tridents and harpoons with rifles
