Many people run their daily dungeons for tokens or other collection items, mostly without getting the desired item. Also when I’m helping out guildies, most of the time I don’t get any real reward (except for greens and blues). Still, I run AC very, very often. Same with Tequatl (only 1 hoard in 100 attempts) or Wurm (no hoard at all).

So my suggestion: why not implement a notoriety/reputation system, that rewards you for participating many, many times in a specific setting? I wouldn’t call this grinding, as I would do AC or Teq anyway, but this way you could also reward ppl that are regularly “playing the game as intended”. Rewards may be staggered (but achieveble), e.g. 1000 rep, 5000 rep, 10000 rep, 50000 rep, 200000 rep. Also the reward for each stage increases accordingly up to unique rewards at max. reputation.

So why not implement reputation for factions like “Dragonslayer brotherhood” (for slaying any dragon), “Durmand Priory” (for slaying enemies in crypts), etc etc

pros:
- no (additional) grind, as we do dungeons, world bosses, pve,…anyway. This would just be an additional reward for regularly participating in PvE content
- possibility to implement unique rewards/titles
- possibility to extend lore (e.g. getting neutral with Modniir as humans under certain circumstances)

cons:
- probably a very big change that is not easy to implement at all that requires a lot of planing and building around the current content

(PS: I have never played WoW, but I did like the factions in GW1 already, although it worked out differently there)

Lighbringer, Kurzick, and Sunspear were all very grindy in GW1. I see no difference here

It’s always a good idea if it’s done properly, but this is an MMO… it will be turned into a grind. Even if it’s designed to not be a grind, the players will make it one.

To be honest, with things such as Tequatl, I don’t see why they can’t just drop a simple token (like the dungeon ones) – that way we’ll be able to get that lovely sunless weapon within the next three years or so.

I think this would be a terrible idea, because the PvP crowd would complain so hard if PvE got something like this.

The RNG may be bad – please contribute to the post in the black lion trading co sub forum on the RNG as a concept: Discuss where topics such as TEQ hoards are discussed and how to make it fairer moving forward. (Hint: no one likes to do TEQ 100 times and get 0 hoards or his mini).
