[Suggestion] Old "town clothes" as armor skins or outfits
Erm … outfits would be better than tonics but I’d almost want a mini-CDI for clothing combo suggestions. Because most of the tonics were incredibly odd choices without any inspiration from the many “here are my town clothes combo” image threads.
I personally dislike the turned up toes of the riding boots, and they look hideously uncomfy when mixed with the sleeveless hoodie, plus jodhpurs with a hoodie? Really? To note just one of the tonic nightmares. I have to grit my teeth when using that on my super-casual Guardian — he used to do the hoodie along with the human town clothes trousers and either shoes or winter boots peeping out under the trouser hems. And his hoodie was a nice pale blue. I miss that look … at least if the tonics became outfits they’d be dyeable.
Who knows, maybe the PAX announcement will clue us in to some sort of quantum leap in customization.
I would prefer outfits, better for leveling alts, and no clipping on Charr.
They should offer a paid service that allows you to submit a screen shot of mix-n-match items you used to wear, let you identify what you’d like to color for the 4 channels, and they re-create it for you.
+1 – It would be great if Town Outfits became same kind of Outfits,
as was in GW1: Option to auto-hide/equip in towns/areas
& don’t forget to release NPC clothings – they look ready since release -.-’
Just let us craft them with reasonable resources, don’t ask for bags of gold…

More yes to this topic! We loved our mix and match and still want it back.
While they are at it, they can re-add the school uniform and paper bags to the game.

Eww no? There already tonns of skins that ruins any kind of lore that AN managed to make at all. Don’t let the game became like Aion/usual fashion bs-mmo, where you cross furry costume dudes, etc…

All the things in this game and you pick on that as lore breaking? How about the fact that in a world with firearms, bows still exist? Or swords that shoot Void Ray lasers.
Or even the Jackalope? How is a burrowing animal like the rabbit supposed to do so with blooming great antlers? :p
+1 to GuzziHero. So much of this “lore” argument has been flawed in the game since launch.
The bear hat says hi btw.
There is a 30 page thread (amazingly not archived) from 9 months ago when the change came in. Here’s my post with pics of my town clothes mixes, to show what I consider good combinations as compared to the oddball choices that actually went into the tonics.
There are some amazing things that were done creatively with town clothes, and Anet just flushed it all away because “reasons”.

Town clothes are just as Lore “ruining” as the Ancestral Outfit in the gem store. In fact, I think they actually add to more of an immersion.
What’s “Lore Friendly?” If I may ask hmmm?
A (Warrior) Sylvari with their plant-like townclothes fighting, or a (Warrior) sylvari with the ridiculous Wintersday outfit?

First question is are outfits selling better now then before the change? Even if they are is there an untaped market of us who liked the old system and not buying the new. Or did this ended up with someone coming up with make work to justify programing hours based on some customer comments with no polling to justify and making many mad as well as happy.
This is because some wanted to wear their outfits in combat but did they really buy more outfits then those like me who did not want to wear wrong armor type in combat but wanted way more variety and customization out of combat.
The old Town clothes system had been no where close to adequately used as there were few options more than now and almost no selection of separates. Thus is seamed to be disposable. I was very suppressed to join 2 years in a few months before the change and not find 20 different tops, pants, shoes, ectera options for my character in town clothes. And for there to be basically no varieties was a shock. In other games clothes are a major driver of activity.
Game still needs a best of both system where it works like the old system and their be 6 slots each that dyes can be used, and things can be mixed and matched. Some drop items to tempt gem buys also a good idea. I don’t prefer it but let it all be used in combat.

its actually a mythical creature from germany\austria. Called mostly " Wolpertinger " or some other rather similar names here, even in the german version of the client the norn woman that follows it while we protect her from jotun refers to it by this name. Quite surprising that they are actually where put into the game, in fact i find it charming. That in the attachment is a painting of one by Albrecht Dürer.

Then I demand we have drop bears!
Side note, you know the Aatxe? They are from Basque mythology. I’m really quite impressed how well-read the creature designers at Anet are.
Yeah, they made my head start baseball cap into a universal head slot skin, why didn’t they do it for other town clothes?
@ GuzziHero.2467 & LumAnth.5124: Everything thats way too mutch technology (Pact lasers and such) are ruining the lore.
Fancy outfits on non-humans are just ridiculous in a way, but no mutch problem with these.
Bows exist because they supposed to shoot faster and further than flintlock pistols (even if they don’t have to be reloaded after each shot…), here kicks gameplay-mechs in.
Yet, thanks for the 6 gods, we’re using proper siege weapons and not laser-cannon blueprints in WvW. That would be the death of my Commander Carreer…
Mesmer beams are… let’s say, magic.
GW2 became a hypster to “outstand from the crowd”, and it’s quite sad for a huge amount of players, including me. When you see characters around you that more looks like a 120W lightbulb+disco ball than a humanoid, y’know.. it hurts.
We’re just living with these issues…

And yet if not for the clock/steampunk styling, I and many other I am sure, wouldn’t even have picked up the game. I admit that some of it feels a little forced and anachronistic (aetherblades) but mostly, in my opinion, GW2 strikes a decent balance.
If they want clock/steampunk, then they should go deeper in it.
And if they would ever fix the kitten skirts to have physics….
Outfits would look so mutch better than… no more big butts & must-be-skirts.
