This would give an incentive to complete hardest/most expensive collections. As for now, i’m not even close to being tempted to complete the current “rare collections”.

Titles? Have dozens of that
Gear? Same.

Special outfit / collection? now that’s something unique.

Dwayna collection -> dwayna outfit? Hell yes! Worth thousand gold.

Future collections:

  • Fractal collection -> fractal outfit? * . *
  • Ele’s conjured weapons’ collection -> an outfit that changes appearance each time an elementalist changes attunement, or other profession gaining a boon. eg. Fire attunement/gaining might = flaming armor, earth/protection = rocky armor, etc (like Udyr)

Brainstorm the rest:)

Right now I believe collections are still in the testing waters, at least what we have. There are other collections in the game that some have found, but were mistakenly activated, and are now disabled.

To me, I believe collections are somewhat popular, so they will probably expand upon them moreso in the xpac, so we may see things like outfits coming out. Or armor (wink wink, nudge nudge, tribal). Right now, the only thing I want is the karma infuser, because sitting on over 1mil karma is getting boring.

It would be nice to get unique skins from the collections, but that would mean Anet would have to add new skins into the game that they cant make money on from the gem store

It all comes back to this time vs financial rewards for them. Tying unique costumes to collections is an excellent idea. And it will never happen.

Edit: unless you pay gems to unlock the collection or something like that

I’m in Basaltface’s group. And since his eloquence is so much greater than mine I’ll let him do the speaking on this matter as well.

Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

I’d rather they do armour/weapon skins as collection rewards than outfits. I feel outfits are better as gem store items because they can be swapped over any armour regardless of class, and they’re also just a one-piece thing. If you look at the luminescent armour, it has a collection for each piece, which they were able to introduce incrementally for people to have new goals every few weeks. You wouldn’t be able to have the same sort of division with outfits.

Additionally, outfits are also used to handle more festive attire, such as the Wintersday and Halloween outfits. Since these festivals are always temporary things a more for “funsies”, I think it makes more sense to have them available as a store purchase for people that might like them. If they were collections, people either won’t care about them because they find them to be superfluous, or they won’t like that they have to get their “fun” look by grinding through a collection.

I definitely would like to see more skins available through collections though, outfits or no. As much as I like the micro-transaction business model compared to a sub fee model (or something like GW1’s expansion model), one of the disadvantages is that a lot of the cool things get locked behind a pay wall.
