For example: if you pick a human as your character, and choose her/him to be poor (street rat), you can give the character clothes that tell that this character is poor. Same with commoner and a noble.

If you pick your character to be an Asura, all the colleges may have their own “school uniform”.

With Charr it depends on legion.

Sylvari and Norn are a bit more difficult… With Norn it would be Defeater of the Ancient Foes, Protector of the Spirits, or Guardian of the Mists.
Sylvari… White Stag Hunter, Green Knight Challenger, or Shield of the Moon.

I like this idea. I like the idea of having more race/culture specific outfits in general, and especially ones that aren’t identical for everyone.

I’m not sure if the system can support an outfit that changes based on your personal story choices, and of course it can’t be a series of outfits which are account-wide like the normal ones, so that may be tricky. But if it can be done I’d love to see it.

Regarding the sylvari and the norn however I think there are better choices. The choices you’ve suggested basing it on are supposed to be personal – something that only applies to our character. You won’t meet other sylvari who dreamed of the Shield of the Moon and feel compelled by their Wyld Hunt to find and help it’s owner like you’ll meet other asura who are members of the College of Dynamics or other charr in the Iron Legion.

For the sylvari I think it’d make the most sense to base it on the Cycle they’re born into – dawn, day, dusk or night. Although it only has a very minor effect on the personal story that choice is equivalent of the asuran colleges or charr legions in that those are the social groups the sylvari have within their society.

The norn are tricker because they don’t seem to have clear social groups like the other races, but I think the best option would be which spirit you choose. They at least have separate lodges within Hoelbrak for their followers and (importantly in this case) different clothing based on their chosen Spirit.

I love the idea. This is the outfit equivalent of all the crafting-related backpacks.

Yeah, but they clearly designed outfits with the idea to sell them through gems.
but this is a great idea!

Originally, they were considering doing a mix of some armors in the gem shop and some outfits via in-game methods. They later changed that (for a variety of reasons). I’m sure they can change their mind again.

Regardless, at the very least, I hope the OP’s idea inspires ANet to consider other sorts of stylistic themes and alternative acquisition requirements.

Given the racial restrictions, it’d probably be more appropriate to have armor skins instead of actual Outfits.

Oh, no, please don’t give us more armor skins, ANet. It would ruin my game forever.
/wink /nudge (Because the best way to get ANet to do something is to tell them it’d ruin the game.)

Many alts; handle it!

I like the idea of more options but I would really prefer more armor options, not more outfits. I especially like the Sylvari birth cycle option. Too bad it wasn’t a thought when they made cultural armor.

But even then I genuinely think that giving away a free outfit could lead to more people buying them.

At the moment you can completely ignore outfits unless you’ve already decided to spend money on one. I don’t think I’ve ever even opened that tab on my free account because I’ve not got any unlocked so I’ve not got any reason to go there. But that means I never look through the locked ones the way I occasionally do on my main account, and I never catch myself thinking one looks really good on a particular character and might be worth buying. And therefore I never buy it.

Whereas if people had a free set to use right from the start it would give them a reason to try it out, see how they work and maybe start thinking that they’d really like some of the others.

I want female Sylvari leafy clothes that are not huge skirts and bulging parts with clipping issues, I want something tight and humble…

This pleeeeeeease!!
The sylvari outfit should vary based on what cycle of the day they were born in (Dawn, Noon, Dusk, Night), and as Danikat said, the norn outfits should depend on what Spirit of the Wild they revere the most.

I love this idea so much. I’d be perfectly okay with them being gem store. But I love racially themed clothes, and would love a theme based on the story choices.

While getting them for free with your story choice would be nice, having them available for any character of the race regardless of story choice I think is better.

The idea is great, though I don’t think Anet would give those for free
And also having those as armor, not outfits, would be so much better.
